January 5, 201313 yr Hi All, This is my first post on the Forum, and would really appreciate your help with a problem being encountered with FSX. The Cessna 172 aircraft is being affected by turbulence when this hasn't been selected - wind was set to None, etc. Default 737 seems ok though. Weather settings were checked and everything was set for calm conditions aloft, but the aircraft continues to be thrown about as if there's a stong crosswind / turbulence, even when on the runway. FSX was removed then re-installed but error remains. Do you know of an FSX bug with turbulence? Thanks, Ryan.
January 5, 201313 yr When you say 'thrown about', do you mean up and down, or just veering off to the side (probably the left) on take-off or in the air ? If the latter, then in FSX go check Settings/Realism. It's probably your P-Factor setting is too high. This will cause your (propellor) aircraft to pull to one side when you advance the the throttle. This happens in real life, but by default it's generally set too high in FSX to be realistic for light aircraft.
January 6, 201313 yr Author Hi DickB , the P-Factor is set to Easy. I'd stated the default 737 was ok, but now realize the problem affects this as well...both planes pull to the right on take off.
January 6, 201313 yr Mmm - not that then. But there are loads of very experienced and helpful folks on here - maybe someone else can guess at the problem.
January 6, 201313 yr Moderator Do you use any addons which enable random turbulence, e.g. OpusFSX or FSUIPC? Also, check the weather settings in the display area and check if the Turbulence area is checked (Sorry can't remember the name of the actual setting, but it's in the graphics/weather area). Also, I had a similar issue in X-Plane, and it turned out to be my joystick causing it. The rudder control was being affected and it would throw the plane about violently whenever I turned
January 6, 201313 yr Author I checked the joystick calibration etc. including rudder operation, but aircraft still pulls violently to the right on take off, and is still thrown around in the air, as if its affected by turbulence rather than faulty rudder, as altitude is gained/lost when this happens...this is a bit of a tricky one! I hope that it can be fixed soon tho as I'm missing Rod's Instrument lessons...
January 6, 201313 yr Hi AVOCET, I had this problem for years, then a few months ago I did this went to Display Settings - Weather - ticked the box for disable turbulence and thermals, since then NO more problems in Cessna 172. I hope this helps. John
January 6, 201313 yr Author John, this was disabled, and everything else checked, but strangely plane still is thrown about. BTW, to those reading this, I'd recommend taking Rod's Instrument lessons and looking at the Ground School stuff, if you havn't already passed it all!! Rod is good at explaining complex things, and makes some bad jokes along the way. It improves flying skills hugely and makes it more enjoyable, especially the ILS lesson. It's not easy, but well worth the effort. Looking forward to the CPL part of the training.
