August 11, 200421 yr I'm going back through the lessons for fun, and in the Slow Flight lesson, I'm asked to adjust the throttle to 75% - but then Rod can't slow the plane down...So I adjust the throttle down and he does his thing - but then can't speed it up...So I adjust the throttle up, and it's my turn - But I have zero trouble keeping the aircraft straight and level at 1800 RPM; he continually insists on 2000 RPM... Then I "fail" the lesson. Is my AOA just not high enough? Every time I shoot for 2000 RPM I lose my goals. Thanks,Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
May 4, 201412 yr I wish someone could help with this. I have the same problem. The lesson ended cause I was too distracted.. even though my airspeed was 60 knts. and power was just under 2000 rpm and was right at 4000 ft. I wish someone could fly this lesson on youtube while narrating what you are looking at and narrating what you are adjusting because of what condition you see.
May 5, 201412 yr You probably aren't at a high enough AoA and therfore not slow enough. I don't recall the lessons, but you should be aiming for very close to the bottom of the white arc with the flaps deployed. 60 knots is way too fast. Once you get behind the power curve, slow and at a high AoA, it will take additional power to maintain altitude.
May 8, 201412 yr Author Yay! After 10 years, I can finally get back into the lessons! H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
May 8, 201412 yr joehawk & turner,Try using 20° Flaps when trying to maintain 60kts & maintaining 4000'. Seemed 1800rpm and zero flaps is what I needed for 60kias. This in FSX btw.20° Flaps and (roughly) 2000rpm... when I am looking out in VC view, the top of the horizon is slightly above the dash. You probably aren't at a high enough AoA and therfore not slow enough. I don't recall the lessons, but you should be aiming for very close to the bottom of the white arc with the flaps deployed. 60 knots is way too fast. For sure Oracle but... Rod is actually calling for 60kts... so... one could say 'fast' slow flight.
May 8, 201412 yr Interesting and how odd. I guess they had to work around the limitations of the simulator, or decided make it easier for anyone to pick up.
May 10, 201412 yr Author I was replying to Joe, but did my reply actually help you after all these years? Well, not really.... I mean, I did it years and years ago, but it just cracked me up! H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
