CTD after completing a flight and using FSPassengers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just switched from the button controlled version to the voice version and must say that it is a complete new experience for me flying the NGX. Of course these new feelings are a lot better than just pressing some buttons to communicate with your FO.

But I have got a small problem that I am not able to fix at the moment. Normally I am running my Win 7 64 in the German language settings and for the speech recognition I installed the English language pack. I changed the language in Windows and the English speech recognition works fine. Everything works fine within FSX and FS2Crew. I can make a perfect flight with the use of FSPassengers without any problems.

But when I finish a flight and the NGX is completly shut down or ready for the next sector, which does not have any effect on the CTD, and I open the FSX titel menu I get a CTD. The first time that happened I was thinking about the uiautomationcore.dll problem. After looking up if I already installed this extra file in the FSX folder I found out that I had this file installed. Even with the button version I had no problems at all. I could do several legs once a day without shuting down the FSX or reloading anything while I was using FSPassengers the whole time.

Before I end the flight with the FSP menu I switch my FSX back into the 2D cockpit and I normally close the FS2Crew bar.

Sometimes the crash occours while opening the title menu and while selection the right point in the menu I get the CTD. Sometimes I can end the flight with FSPassengers but then I do not get back into the cockpit because of a CTD.

Today I thought the problems were gone. I finished a nice flight and ended it with FSP. After this flight I waited until my NGX was fully cleaned and refilled with snacks for the next paxs :) I think there was a break of about one hour before I started the next flight with FSP (FSX was running fine the whole time). Everything was ok and I completed every checklist and rolled out to the departure runway. At the runway I just wanted to shut down the music from FSP and for that I had to open the title menu. While selecting the title in the bar with the mouse courser the CTD occoured again.

I do not use the small status window of FSP because it does not work properly with the NGX. I know that Bryan has a work around for it and I think that a real pilot does not have a small status window of the passengers mood in real aircrafts :)

If I do a fresh start of FSX I can make a full flight without any problems. Opening and closing the title bar as often as I want and I do not get any CTD.

I hace searched the forum for any similar problem but could not find any information about it. Maybe somebody has a hint for me how I can solve this issue.

Thanks,

Thorsten

I don't know a solution to this problem but I would recommend you to try FSCaptain (http://www.fscaptain.net/).

Many ways it's more advanced than FSPax and offers everything that FSPax does (other than economics which are overly simplified and plain horrible in FSpax anyway).

It's also still in development and supported unlike FSpax and seems to work just perfectly with PMDG 737NGX.

Thorsten,

Are you using the latest version of FS2Crew?

A few users reported a CTD around the shutdown phase when the wheel chocks would go it, but we fixed that in a later update.

As for your FSPassengers I don't know.

The FSPax developer left the FS scene a long time ago.

Hi,

thanks for the answers. The fact is that I have the latest version of FS2Crew (1.5 Voice; 1.6 Button) installed and that the button version works well with FSP and FS2Crew.

I know about the problem with the wheel chocks, Bryan, maybe you remember that we hat a email conversation about this topic :)

I just thought about one option that may be worth a try. What about the point that I installed FS2Crew while I had the German language pack installed and active in Windows? After that I installed the English pack and switched to it because of the voice recognition.

Could it be a solution to re-install FS2Crew with the English language pack active?

@FScamp: Thank you for your hint. I will check the web for it.

But nevertheless everything worked and works fine with the button version. But I really don't want to go back to it after getting the voice version to know ;)

Best regards,

Thorsten

I doubt that's a factor.

Wheel chocks: I forgot the exact conversation, but FYI an issue with the wheel chocks has been fixed in Emergency NGX (Version 2.0).

This issue was associated with the chocks being inserted, and then removed under some scenarios.

Hi Bryan,

sorry that I did not reply earlier but I was on a business trip so I had no time and chance to do anything on my simulatior installation. I will try re-installing FS2Crew within the English language selection. Maybe I get some other results.

I will also try some flights without FSP which I did not do in the past. I don't know why I am just thinking about this option just to be sure that FSP has nothing to do with the porblem.

Best regards,

Thorsten

Hi Bryan,

as I already wrote in the other thread, I installed Emergency NGX! yesterday and made two very successfull flights in a row without having any problem with FSX or FS2Crew. But I did the flights without FSP. Of course I re-installed FS2Crew and then Emergency NGX! within the English language setup of my Windows 7.

Today I made the first flight with Emergency NGX! and FSP and after completing the first flight and selecting anything in the titlebar FSX stopped working and gave me a CTD again.

I think that points to FSP as the main issue for the CTD problem that I have. I already had a look on FS Captain and it looks and sounds very good. I will give it a try even that I think that FSP is a nice and good Addon for FSX. But nevertheless it is a pitty that the developer left the scene and still makes money with this program.

I just wanted to give you this last information. Finally this topic can be closed for now :)

Best regards,

Thorsten

Hi,

just a very last update on this topic that I had on my system.

Thanks Bryan for the info about the update. Of course I installed and tried it but without having any changes in the behavior of my FSX.

After this disappointing first tests I just did 5 hours of research last weekend to find the root of the problem of my FSX. At the end I came across a very interessting thing which was not related to FS2Crew nor FSPassengers.

I got those CTD's even with standard FSX planes and could replicate them very easy each time I started FSX. The final result was that it was a big problem with the uiautomationcore.dll which is not unknow of course. But I did not think about this file because I had the replacement in my FSX folder as it is requiered for Win7. But there are a few people out there who had the same problems than I had. The replacement of the uiautomationcore.dll did not work out completely. So I just disabled those files in the windows system folders and that in the FSX directory. The result is that I do not have had any CTD since I did the changes. I can do what I want and I can access the title bar as often as I like without coming across any CTD.

Right now I still can use FS2Crew and FSPassengers without any problem. But nevertheless I also got a registered version of FSCaptain which I think is a great improvement according to FSPassengers. I really like that addon and by the time it will replace FSPassengers on my system.

Best regards,

Thorsten

Thorsten,

Glad to hear you got it all sorted.

FSX can be a finicky animal.
