So right now I have 8GB running very low in MHz. First does faster RAM speed make a difference within FSX? I wanted to upgrade to 16GB....Will that improve performance?

What RAM would you recommend?

Probably the cas9 would be best, but any of these if you want to go with g.skill, thats what i have just purchased

If its an fsx only machine i wouldnt go above 8GB - 2X4GB sticks, 16gb wont do anything for fsx, it may even make it run worse.

Hi,

i didnt say it WILL run worse just that it MAY, that was why i asked if it was an fsx only machine, im not too sure as to why it may run worse, i have read it here a few times.

By all means if you use it for other things then having more is ok. maybe someone else can say why it can be worse.

(I take this post to place my question)

Hi Paul,

I'm building a new PC and I too have this doubt about the amount of RAM. I think I read it here in the walktrough about 'setting up the PC for FSX'.

The system will have dualboot, 1HD only for MSFS and a 2nd for work&multimedia (OS Win7 64).

the problem is that I work with real time 3D rendering and video editing, so 16MB of RAM would of course make a diference.

If someone that knows better about this 8 or 16RAM in MSFSX issue, please clarify.

Thanks in advance and best regards from Portugal ;)

Hi Pedro,

I am far from qualified to explain as my knowledge is VERY limited, i understand people go for 3770k's when video editing with more than 8GB of ram.

Dual boot etc i know zero about

But as far as i know (fsx wise) the more ram there is (over 8gb) the more stress it can put on imc(memory controller??) in the cpu which CAN (not does) but can have adverse affects.

There are ALOT more people here who do know what they are talking about, i only originally posted because no-one had replied to the op regarding speed and cas of ram.

Maybe dazz, max, hasse, Word Not Allowed and the likes will chip in with their vast knowledge.

http://www.simforums.com/forums/memeory-timings-vs-speed_topic41484_post246676.html#246676 have a read here.

http://forum.avsim.net/fsx_guide.pdf i believe you need the latest adobe for this.

hope some of this helps.

Hi

Faster memspeed and low cas improve performance in fsx , 2400mhz cl9 is Very good.

16gb 4 X 4 is ok but no inprovments in fsx , a matched 16gb set cost a lot more if you need to other things than fsx its ok

No problem with the MC If in the safe side less than @4.9ghz 16gb

Thank you Paul and westman for your tips. Much appreciated!

Those guides are really a great support for setting FSX!

it's said that "flying is easy, what is difficult is to land".... but configure a PC for FSX is a real pain in the a**!!

thanks and best regards
