KORD FPS Drain

Featured Replies

Anyone notice the FPS drain when flying near KORD? KORD is the blackhole of FPS drain.I flew over KORD at FL12 and as I reached KORD, my FPS dropped to 5-6. Maybe due to the extra AI traffic?Just an observation...Barry

Me too.. I'd venture to say it was normal for any busy airports

hi barry, i was using KORD and KBOS as test airports for the last week. KBOS boston had terrible weather the whole week "real weather". everything started to "chug" coming in for a landing at both airports. that concerned me so much i bought a new processor, a amd3000. i was using an amd 2.4. tested it again yesterday with the amd3000 and it helps alot. i'm running in 1024x768 and i'd also drop down to 800x600 if i have to but hope i don't. i also use all the default settings and default aircraft. no add ons. i still get a few pauses out the side window view but the cockpit view ran pretty smooth at both airports with real weather. william

I wonder if more / faster memory would help.I am using 768MB PC 2100.Take care!Barry

Probably not. I have 1Gig of 400mhz mem and I still notice a 10-12 fps drop when approaching KORD. Of course there is alot more AI traffic in that area on my system as I use Ultimate Traffic.

1 gig of memory should be minimum if you want the best performance out of games. Especially running windows XP which basically needs that 1 gb to not run out of virtual memory its such a system hog. Anyway, more memory, faster video card, faster processor, quality sound card, there are many things to speed up the game. But unfortunately they all cost money. First off try updating the drivers for everything you have then you will see an increase in performance

FPS is quite low for me over KORD as well (just checked - ~14FPS with quite a few clouds and most settings maxed, looking at the entire airport from ~3000 ft).5-6 FPS sounds *very* low though. Unless you have a low-end system you should look at tweaks, more FPS friendly AI (I'm using PAI+GA-Traffic) and so on and make sure the system is configured correctly.AthlonXP2400+ (@ 2.2GHz), Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB, 512MB RAM.

Sure enough. KORD is my 'it doesn't get any worse than this' test flight location.

Have you tried flying around KORD with the AI percentage all the way down to zero, this getting rid of all those planes? It only takes a few seconds to do that test, but just remember to put the slider back up when you're done.In FS2002, there was an FPS black hole around KPBI (Palm Beach, Florida) which was caused by a problem with the airport ground lighting at night. Daytime was no problem.

My KORD has slow performance as well, always has. Much less than with the other default busy airports like ATL, SEA, LAX, etc. It always stays in double-digits though, although it tends to drop close to 10 at points with traffic. My specs:P4 3.0 ghz1gig ramATI 9800 ProAudigy2
