My system is Windows XP home/ FS 2004AMD Athlon 2600128mb Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 8X AGP1024 DDR RAM PC 2700My question is would I make any gain in FS performance (Frame rates etc) by increasing the RAM to 1536mb or is there a limit of 1 Gigthat further increases are of no benefittom

There would be no noticeable performance change at all Tom. What you have now is just fine.Doug

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

i have a similar system to you and i have 1.5 gig of ram. i do not shut down all background programs when using FS (as i have cable conection and update with real weather i need protection), so consequently i have about 350mb RAM used before i even start FS (cpu usage is only about 2% from background programs so other than ram they have little effect). when i only had 512 i was getting virtually constant disc activity and lotes of stuttering, upgrading to 1 gig helped but i still had stuttering and the RAM was often all used up. now i get hardly any stuttering and very little disc activity.

My guess is that your next purchase prolly should be a better vid card. The 4200 series is OK but the 5900 series is newer and better. YMMV, of cuss. But you could get along with that setup just fine for the time being.

Bruce, I am not knocking you here but you really could do with much less, there are too many things running to use 350 mb before starting FS. Right now, with everything that I normally run I am at 272 MB. Heck I even have the UD Agent running in there, that is the program to find a cure for cancer. I also have a cable connection and use real weather so I keep my firewall and anti-virus running all of the time. I mean you could keep running all of those extra things but I think that FS would run a tad better for you if you killed the truly unecessary stuff. I highly reccomend Ken Salter's FS AutoStart, it is fairly easy to set up and very easy to use, I and many others would help you set it up if you needed it. I have found that the more things that are running the more slow downs FS will have. When I do things manually without FS AutoStart I usually end up with about 185 mb used before I start FS, it comes down more when I use FS AutoStart and with that I have every bit of my security running. I am running Windows XP by the way and I have 1 gig of ram. All of this is of course your choise but I think that you will see a smoother faster sim if you shut down a little more of the unneeded programs and processes. If I can help in any way please feel free to give me a shout. Take care,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
