August 23, 200421 yr Hi, Has anyone seen the artical about ILS on page 80 about of the Augest issue, Well I was able to get it to do a ILS landing , My question is now that I almost understand how it works where does one get all the settings for other airports , I understand the nav 1 radio setting but how about the ADF and OBS settings ?ThanksTony
August 23, 200421 yr On approach plates, for the siad airport the chart will list data for these frequency's and other info. To see an example of these you can go to www.myairplane.com there on the left side menu you will see where to click, then go to the state, then after that chose from the list. I buy FAA charts (Sporty's, "I have no afiliation with them"), about once ebery year or to. Now in the real worls you would need to replace (I think its every 54 days or so) every revision (54 days) to reflect any changes in the air space around the field and or changes to the runways them selfs. Since MSFS 09 will not change untill the next version (MSFS10), sporty's also sells a CDROM package that will work till next FS version is released. The reason I buy charts every 6 to 12 months is I enjoy watching the changes as they are rolled out. I buy the AK plates as that is really cool, especially cause so many places are not on the charts. Also, be aware while flying in the sim once you are near the field of you choice you can click on the map view (be aware this will pause the sim as you look around) and see the needed data, its just not as detailed.Alos, FSNAV ( a payware program) (really cool if you have a second monitor) shows the data. Please note at the site myairplane.com you can print out the plates. Alos, where planning a flight you sould be able to manipulate the map to see the data, of course if you want to re-direct to a different field with lower mins due to more Nav equipment on the ground this wont help unless you scan around and copy it all down. I think you can print but I have never been happy with it.Lastly, I purchased a DVD from Sporty's (1-800-sporty's) it is by Richard Collins (Fling Magazine Editor). It is part of a six disk series called "Air Facts" but can be purchased by itself. The title is "Insturment Flying Tips". It really pulled at lot of ythings together for me.Oh, one more, dont foorget the lessons that are part of the sim.I hope this helpped a little.Mark.
August 23, 200421 yr You can get all of the approach charts for the entire U.S. free from the FAA http://naco.faa.gov/index.asp?xml=naco/online/d_tpp
August 23, 200421 yr Author I use the SimPlates 2004 package with the update bundle from Dauntless Software. It is several CDs which can be transferred to you HD with a unified interface. It is not sim specific but is a stand alone application relying on the free Acrobat Reader. I was pleasantly surprised to find additional info such as preferred routes from major airports, airport information, and other info for most US and many international sites. Sources are FAA and NIMA(?).http://www.dauntless-soft.com/PRODUCTS/SimPlates/frame.html for info.
