Moving map app?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I remember reading about a moving map app here about a week ago. It was free, used what looked like google maps and satellite images, and worked on ios. I remember reading that it simply used your home wireless network to connect. It sounded great! Unfortunately, I'm now completely unable to find it. Is this ringing any bells for anyone?

Thanks,

James

Of course I find it 2 minutes after posting...

If you mean a program, Plan G is free. You connect it to FSX it it shows a moving map with your aircraft and AI aircraft on it, and you can use it to make flight plans. It has STARs but no SIDs. If you mean an app for the Ipad, there is FSX Follow, but I don't remember if it is free. Just go to Itunes and search for it, and it will also suggest similar apps.

I prefer Plan G 2.03 over 3.0 myself. I had both and uninstalled 3.0. The features are good in both versions but I don't like the new map. 2.03 has Google maps for the satellite view, a plain map view and especially the Terrain view that I use to zoom in to find mountain peak altitudes. Important when flying in Alaska IMHO.

FSX Follow I believe is $3. It works flawlessly and you don't have to be on your own home network, you just need internet access/Wi-Fi. It can also load flight plans to show where you should be and where the copilot decided to fly ^_^
