Help with water

Featured Replies

Ok, I've tried everything I can think of, but I'm still getting that 'tiled' look at sunset & sunrise. I'm not sure if I've got some of my settings off or not turned up high enough. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, can anyone recommend proper settings for view & cloud draw distances? (to keep things a 'real' looking as possible). In the shots you can see I have no problems during the day, BUT, I spend most of my time flying at sunrise & sunset. My setup:Athlon 3200+PNY GF FX5900 Ultra w/ latest driversCard set at 8x aniso in it's control panel and 4 in-simNo anti-alias.Terrain Max Vertex=20Terrain Default Radius=9.90Terrain Extended Radius=11.90Texture Bandwidth Multi=300I'm also thinking of deleting the FS9.cfg and letting it rebuild itself again from scratch. Any suggestions on weather I should keep these above settings?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89657.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89658.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89659.jpg

Howdy,in the first shot, on the non-water tiles, I can spot autogen. That means you're actually missing the default "water mask" file, HP9*.bgl, from the FS9Scenery subdirectories. Probably related to incorrect installation or uninstallation of an add-on scenery. What area are you flying over in the first shot and are you sure that those tiles are gone during the day? Cheers, Holger

Holger,That's the 'Seattle at sunrise' flight from FS water. I moved time forward to 12:00pm local, and got a perfectly normal shot again.I did install FS Water over a non-factory set of files. Maybe I should blow out my SceneryWorldtexture folder with the default from my CD's and start over again. I also use the BlueSphere sets, and I think that's the only other thing that's been written to that directory (except USA Roads).Scotthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89677.jpg

I also checked the 'Namw' folder, and I do have HP9xxx.bgl files in there. I see I added something back on the 13th of this month that did this to the folder structure..http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89678.jpgI don't know if this was related to the latest, optional update to USA Roads (NuRoad10).

you have the same problem in your last shot, as you can see the coastline is made up of straight edges

Thanks for the help, guys! Nothing wrong with giving the scenery folder a good enema now and then..(as I take my CD's out...)Scott

Hi Scott, ahem, that's my temp folder in there! So you have or had my North Cascades package installed (us_wa_nc.zip). If you uninstall it you need to move the files from the temp holder back into the Namwscenery subfolder, just like the uninstall instructions ask you to ;-)Cheers, Holger

Holger,This is getting aggravating! I re-installed the sim, and didn't back up my textures or scenery. I wanted to re-install fresh (I have a extensive backup of my aircraft, and wanted to get other parts re-set fresh after doing a slip-stream SP-2 install). Now, the problem is even worse! All I did was add in BlueSphere and FS Water to start, and kept some of my FS9.cfg display settings. The 'tile' effect had gotten worse now...Scotthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89691.jpg

I too encounter this problem at dawn and dusk. A few months ago I had occasion to reformat my drive and reinstall fs9 from scratch. I specifically tested the installation before adding a single addon to see if this problem existed with a pristine setup. It was still there. I concluded it was a problem with my video card. Now I'm not so sure since you appear to have the same problem with an nVidia card and I'm using an ATI Radeon 9800 128 Pro. It must be something else our systems have in common.

are you talking about fs updating textures as the light changes? there is a checkbox to make the updates smoother, but i don't think there's a way around the necessity to update :)
