VOR on EFIS - do you need to set this for NAV 1 approach frequency to work correctly?

Featured Replies

Hello;

I have a very basic question to fill a gap in something I've obviously missed.

If I am doing an approach and have NAV 1 set to the ILS approach frequency and NAV 2 set to the VOR, do I need to have the EFIS switch (left switch Captain-side) set to VOR ?

I always have thought that you must have the EFIS switch set to VOR when NAV 1 is set to an approach frequency - and this is what I have always done... However, I  noted today that the approach glide slope was still active when I had set the EFIS switch (left switch Captain -side)  to ADF 1.

Can someone provide guidance.  Thank you,    WilloW

No you don't need to set it to App or nav I often leave it on map at all times during the flight.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the note - appreciate your time.

I must have written my post oddly as I am not referring to the knob (MAP, APP, etc), but the switch (VOR/ADF)

Should the switch be at VOR when NV 1 is set to an approach frequency ??

Thanks,    WilloW

Because it's just for information. Nothing to do with autoflight or receiving radio signals. You turn it on if you want to see it on ND.

Ah good to know - as I thought differently.   Thank you for replying.     Cheers,   WilloW
