September 15, 200421 yr I don't find it all that tough to take off. I'm not even trimming the rudder. I let it run at 30 for a bit, then start applying right rudder (a lot of right rudder), then once the tail comes off I give it full throttle and it isn't too bad at all. However, I think I have the P-factor set at about 60% (realism slider full right though)...
September 15, 200421 yr The P-Factor slider is the one that is the issue. Set that to full and you will see what I am talking about. Or atleast you should heh :)
September 15, 200421 yr well, yeah but from what I've read in several places FS9's P-factor is overdone from the get-go so I pretty much always leave it at 60 or so...
September 15, 200421 yr I never learned it was ok. Back on a FS 2000 plane that had a similer torque problem someone else recommended to try it. I've only used that tecnique for this Corsair and that FS2000 plane.
September 15, 200421 yr I guess the realism settings are in question here. If they are turned down, you can control the plane. Real Air asks you to turn UP the realism for their planes. Why is it a problem to turn them down some for this plane?
September 15, 200421 yr Changing the realism settings to make a plane fly the way you want it to is one thing. Changing it becuase the plane simply won't fly otherwise is another.
September 15, 200421 yr Actually, RealAir recommends that the "general" realism slider be full right, but they recommend a P-factor of around 2/3 right - which is one of the reason's I've always left it there. :)
September 15, 200421 yr LOL I really don't care, I'm just bored :)I'm done for now unless someone else comes up with a new argument ;)
September 15, 200421 yr I concur with both your and several other people's experience when flying this aircraft. IT IS SIMPLY UNCONTROLLABLE ON THE RUNWAY WITH MANIFORD PRESSURE SETTINGS ABOVE 23 INCHES. Not realistic, not in accordance to the supplied manual, not in accordance with Corsair training films and real-world procedures. The Corsair should be completely controllable on the runway with an intial power setting of 30 inches manifold pressure, albeit torque does of course need to be counter-acted with rudder. The big thing here is that with this model at the default settings, the rudder is not effective enough to accomplish this. This is very unrealistic. Either you must use an unrealistic take-off procedure or you must tweak the aircraft.cfg file. This is the ONLY way to get the aircraft airborne. :)You can either increase rudder effectiveness or decrease the P-Factor Torque in the aircraft.cfg file for more realistic and controllable responses. It's important to realize folks that, while some airplanes are indeed very difficult to fly, if a machine were like this in real life it'd eventually end up killing everybody who flew it. :)So tweak the .cfg file and have fun, what a beautiful exterior model and panel - some of the best freeware stuff I've ever seen in Flight Simulator. Merci beaucoup a la Guy Hulen, le designer du le Corsair avion pour Fligh Simulator :) C'est magnifique monseuir Hulen!!!
September 15, 200421 yr Tweaked the aircraft.cfg, take off is fine now, albeit with a full rudder. But geez, did we all not see what a gem this is? One of the best packages I've seen in a while. Great looking model, great vc, and a sound package I've been waiting a long time for. Really good sounds of the R2800. So I've got to ditto Rugerdog, this is one of the best!Todd
September 20, 200421 yr Yay, that did the trick :) Thank you !I set the value to 2.25You still have to use the throttle carefully at lower speeds or the plane goes bananas as there is no force to counteract the torque but at higher speeds the drag from the rudder will keep you on the runway. Feels right. This is one fine plane !!! Outstanding work and free. THANK YOU !!!After Bill Lyons Goose from the "Tales of the golden monkey" ("Die Himmelhunde von BoraGora" here in Germany) this is the other plane i was always waiting for because of a tv-series. Namely "Black Sheep Squadron" ("Pazifikgeschwader 214"). Just needs some repaints *hint* ;)In the tv series they were always "drifting" when they took off and the landings didn
September 20, 200421 yr Egad, I suffered through that tv series just for the flying sequences, but it was worth it. :-) I knew the lead pilot, John Schaffhausen, who flew a dash 7. He said you have "ooooze" the power on. I guess I know what he means now.Todd
