Another suggestion for Microsoft....

One big thing on my wish for FS2k6 is for Microsoft to do away with gate assignment after landing. Seeing as if one is flying Air Canada and there is no way for ATC to assign you to the proper gate after landing, do away with that feature. As things are now if you don't follow the pink arrows to a designated spot, you can't start a new flight. I landed in Toronto last night (Air Canada A319) and got vectored by ATC to park at a hanger even though I chose to

I tend to disagree with doing away with gate assignments. While I agree with what you are saying, yes it is frustrating to be assigned a United gate when flying America West but doing away with it could cause problems. Where would the pink arrows lead you if you are unfamiliar with the airports taxi ways, would they just end near the terminal? While not being assigned a proper gate is unrealistic, not being assigned a gate at all is even more unrealistic. I would like them to read the information in the aircraft config file and assign you a proper gate based on your plane, if all of the gates are full then they should have you hold someplace until a proper gate is available. This could be done, I think simply, just have a routine that asks if an AI plane of the same airline is due to depart in, say, the next ten minutes, if so route the plane to a holding point until the other craft departs. If there will be no departures within the ten minutes you get routed to another gate. This would be a million times better and more realistic than no gate assignments at all. Believe me, I do understand your frustration but as in the real world if you don't follow the instructions that ground control gives you, you get into trouble. Many pilots don't like the instructions that ground gives them but they must follow them. I am not sure what happened in your case but it sounds like all of the gates that ATC could have assigned you to were full so that is why you were sent to a hanger. When this happens to me I pretend that a bus is sent out to pick up my passengers, I have gone through this several times in the real world so I know that it happens all of the time. While I agree with your frustration I can not agree with your solution, there has to be a better way than to just do away with it completely.Take care, Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg

Just a little programing to make these lines in the aircraft.cfg file work for flyable aircraft, not just AI, would do the trick..atc_parking_codes=AMXatc_parking_types=GATEThough not a perfect system better than what available now...

Thanks, I did not know that you could do this! I guess that I did not pay attention when I should have :-lol This will really help to make things a little more realistic for me.Thanks again,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg

Slewing isn't the only option to clear this issue. You can also quickly start a multiplayer session, then disconnect to 'reset' ATC.Gary
