Rutan Boomerang WIP

Featured Replies

The attached jpegs are of my Rutan Boomerang, which is nearing completion after nearly two years of on-and-off work. These pics are of the main model as of about 2 months ago. It is now complete, with full external textures. I am still working on the internal textures, along with the panel and VC. I am teaching myself XML to try to model some of the rather unconventional instruments the Boomerang uses. The biggest hurdle is the flight model, but I am leaving that to last - I think I am happy releasing a visually complete model and tweak the flight model gradually. The only clues I have are a rather in-depth report on the plane from a Sport Aviation issue from 1996 - the performance is a cross between a Baron and a Kingair. Interestingly, the Baron was the 'base design' for the Boomerang, or at least the functional equivalent thereof. Trying to precisely model the assymetry in FS2004 leads to somewhat unpredictable (and unflyable) results.Anyway, here are the pics.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/91331.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/91330.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/91332.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/91333.jpgI expect to complete the Boomerang in about a month, and it will of course, be a freeware download.Cheers,

I actually got inside boomerang some years back when it was still prototype. An incredible plane. I might have to dig up some pics..Jim Rhoads

I have some inside pics I took when it appeared at Oshkosh '96. It was in a rather unfinished state then - bare carbon composite and filler, with wires everywhere.I am doing two versions of the interior; the first roughly approximates the 1996 appearance, with unfinished surfaces and instrument panel, missing U/C doors (presumably due to a landing accident it had prior to Oshkosh) and the alien sticker in the window! The second version will be my concept for a contemporary Boomerang, witha more up-to-date instrument panel (I am assuming that Burt has replaced his Mac Powerbook 100 for a nice new G4-ti 17" laptop, and the old Quadro main CPU is now a twin Sun SparcStation!) and a nice custom interior.I don't want to give too much away about the custom interior, but I can confirm that there will be some *very* original features that will be a first in the FS world!
