Wind speeds

Featured Replies

Hi Cheryl

Firstly as one of the earlier purchases of Opus just want to say thanks for all the upgrades you have put out. I just want to ask a general question about Opus and wind speeds in FSX. Am I right in thinking that if you are using a static theme in Opus, you can increase the wind speed by going into the weather programme in FSX and under user defined weather /customise, increase the wind speed on the slider ? Are the 2 linked together ? Finally do you know if it is possible to increase the maximum wind speed of 36 knots by editing the cfg. somewhere ? I am trying to replicate some more difficult cross wind landings.

Many thanks Paul

There is no connection between the Opus LWE and the FSX settings or customised weather. The actual surface and to some extent the low level wind speeds are determined by the downloaded METARs, all upper wind targets are determined by the GRIB forecast data if it is used. If you want to practice takeoff and landings in adverse or severe weather without finding any real weather to match, you can simply use the METAR File Import option. Create a text file (e.g. Metar_Import.txt) with a single METAR statement, on a single line, specifying GLOB as the ICAO code. Then tick the Import METARs From File option and specify or browse for your import file. The LWE will decode and load the weather specified by your METAR statement. You can then specify any weather conditions you desire.
