April 17, 201313 yr Hey So after reading Word Not Allowed's hardware and software tweaking guide and applying those, I'm still getting under 5 frames per second on the ground at OMDB with FlyTampas addon, PMDGs 747 and UT2. It now seems my only other option is to upgrade my CPU, as I am aware that FSX is a heavily CPU reliant game. So my main questions are, would it be worth upgrading my stock i5-2500 to a factory unlocked i5 with the intention of overclocking to about 4.6ghz, and which i5 is best? I do not really want to spend the extra money on an i7, as I don't use any programs that need hyperthreading and don't usually have a lot of things open. Right now I was looking at a 3570k, which is about $300. What sort of speed would I achieve with this CPU when OC'd, and would it make any difference to FSX? As I said before, I'd rather keep it an i5, in case the 3570k isn't suitable. These are my specs: Intel i5-2500 / stock cooler 8GB of DDR3 RAM EVGA GTX670 FTW 2gb 120GB Intel 330 series SSD / 1TB WD hard drive Thanks!
April 18, 201313 yr Have you turned down your settings a little. No machine can run everything at max. You will have to make compromises. Ryan L.
April 20, 201313 yr You should see a nice performance boost with that plan. Not sure of your RAM but get the highest Mhz RAM your mobo supports. It shouldn't add too much to your upgrade costs and will make overclocking easier as you'll need less Vcore volts for a given overclock value. Anything over 1600 Mhz should be fine. Regards
