Real Plane Crash FSX

Featured Replies

Hello All!

I was wondering if anyone had links to missions recreating real world situations? It would be interesting to try a hand at situations real pilots have faced, and see if we are able to recover. I was thinking along the lines of AF447 or Delta 191. Obviously nothing hijack related or an accident caused strictly by pilot error. I have heard of at least one but I was wondering if there were others.

Thanks!

I have never seen any missions based on real world chashes. With respect to those two, the limitations of FSX may prevent one from trying them realistically:

AF447- Caused by pitot icing and failure of the pilots to notice the lead up to the stall which lead to one that was unrecoverable. Limitations with the flight model of current payware/freeware A330s coupled with the fact that you would be expecting the stall would make the simulation unrealistic.

DL191- This one may be able to be simulated realistically. However, limitations within the FSX weather model (Im not sure how well windshear is simulated), combined with, again, flight model deficiencies and the fact that you are expecting the events would lead to a poor simulation of one's ability to 'try their hand' at saving the doomed plane.

Also, you need to look at the fact that people lost their lives in these and similar crashes, so many developers may stay away from making 'missions' of the crashes out of respect. One incident, however, that could be made into a good mission would be the 'Gimli Glider' incident. The cause was very simple-no fuel- so you can create the scenario easily by yourself without needing to download a mission. Also, there were only minor injuries and no fatalities, so there is no morbid aspect to it.

I agree with you on both claims. A recreation of an accident ending with tragedy would not necessarily pay due respect, however the Gimli Glider (among others) would make for good missions.

If there was a A320 for Flight Unlimted 3 you could try the Hudson landing since in that sim the plane will actually come apart and show the effects of the crash on the airframe. I remember as a kid putting the beechjet in a dive and yanking back and watching the wings come off it was way better than the cracked glass effect MSFS had for every crash situation.
