Never any weather reports

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been using Opus FSX but it never seems to display any data in the weather reports on the menu. I have attached a screenshot to show what I mean. As far as i'm concerned i've set it up correctly (adding destination ICAO, alternate ICAOS, and cruise Alt).

The data never displays every time.

Thanks,

Stephen

Grib data will not be downloaded unless your specified cruise altitude is more than 6000 feet. You can open the spy window to see if the grib data is being downloaded and decoded.

Hi, my cruise alt was specified at 36,000ft

Update the weather manually from the Addon menu option or weather dialog then quickly open the spy window (from the server dialog) and see what messages are displayed and whether it is downloading the GRIB data and decoding it, there will be error messages if there is a problem.

I assumed you had Adjust Options Automatically enabled in the weather dialog, if not you will have to enable GRIB data manually in the Weather Download Options (weather dialog).

You must force an update of your weather, and 'immediately' open your Spy window to 'monitor' the download. The above is after the download and does not tell me anything.

What is your Spy window saying when it attempts to download your GRIB data followed by your METARS ?

Try deleting all the files except the degrib.exe file in your GRIB sub-folder before forcing an update. Then monitor the download process.

This is not showing any download messages at all. Are you clicking on Update Weather then immediately opening your spy window. You should see the METARS being downloaded, before these an attempt to download your GRIB data file. Di you delete your GRIB folder files except the degrib.exe?

Could you let me know what Opus weather settings you have. Try setting all defaults and then enabling the Adjust Settings Automatically, Adjust Sim Friendly. Make sure you have specified a cruise altitude of at least 6000 feet. Make sure you have the Import option disabled.

When posting your Spy window content please remove your name and licence number for security reasons.

If you have downloaded METARs then you will have an OpusWeather.txt file in your OpusFSX\Themes folder.

Ive attached all my settings. Yes I did click the spy button straight after clicking update weather. I havent yet deleted the GRIB folder files as i'm still running a flight and dont want it to fail

Thanks,

My advice would be to check your OpusWeather.txt file, or even display your Opus Destination and Alternate weather reports, that will confirm you have METARs downloaded. When your flight has finished download the latest version 3 upgrade, uninstall your current version, check all your GRIB files have been removed, delete all other GRIB files if there are any, then install version 3. Run FSXSERVER and set your cruise altitude to > 6000 feet. Run FSX and the FSXSERVER and immediately open the Spy and watch the weather files download.

Running OPUS and admin right? Do you have a computer protection program that might be blocking access? Do OPUS have read and write privileges?

Yes admin rights and no blocking access I dont think

I can't really remember why others couldn't get a GRIB download. I think it did have to do with folder permissions for the OPUSFSX folder. Because it couldn't be accessed when it tried to download the information it couldn't do so. But that is the best guess I have.

Any ideas on how to do that?

You may need to set the sharing and permissions on the folder, the procedure is described in our getting started guide here which can be translated into different languages by clicking on the translate button at the top right of the page. The procedure is as follows,

Sharing

To set up Sharing on a folder/drive run Windows Explorer, right click on the folder/drive you wish to share, select Properties, select the Sharing tab, select Advanced Sharing, tick the checkbox to share the drive and enter a share name. Click on Permissions, enter Everyone in the Group or user names box and tick the checkboxes to allow Full Control for Everyone.

Permissions

To set up Security Permissions run Windows Explorer, right click on the folder/drive you wish to set Security settings for, select Properties, select the Security tab, select Everyone in the Group or user names box and ensure the Permissions are Full Control, if not click on the Edit button and tick the Permissions checkboxes to allow Full Control for Everyone. Also select Authenticated Users in the Group or user names box and tick the checkboxes to allow Full Control.

Also make sure you do not install OpusFSX in the FSX, Program Files or Opus Software folders since this will cause problems with permissions. It is advisable not to install FSX itself in Program Files since this too can cause permission problems.

However other people who have had problems with the GRIB download usually find the answer is to delete all files within the GRIB folder and reinstall OpusFSX, it is probably a locked or corrupt file in the GRIB folder that is causing your problem. We did have one person who could not download GRIB data because his router was blocking access to the NOAA site but you seem to have access to the site since you are getting METARs.

Cheryl
