Marching ants

Featured Replies

Hi all-

I'm experiencing an odd situation that has been ongoing but have finally decided to try and do something about it. I'm attaching a link to a video to clarify.

Notice to marching ants (like the selction tool in PS) on the windows, light poles and jetways? I've gone all the way to 8XQ and 4xSuperSampling with no visible effect. This behavior is also evident when looking at runway markings from a steep angel. Anybody else have this problem?

Thanks,

Mark

I think most of us have this problem.  AA just doesn't work too well in FSX.  However, it can be reduced and eliminated in many situations.  I assume you have AA/AF  turned on in FSX?  For me I have the AA setting in the Display Driver/NI set to Application-controlled/Off. AA Transparency Multisampling - Enabled.  AA Transparency SS - 8X Sparse Grid SS.  Nvidia Preferred FXAA Usage - Disallowed.  AF is simply set to Application-controlled.

There's an excellent AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide pinned at the top of this forum which provides other settings, recommended tweaks, etc.  One thing you can do while running FSX in Windowed Mode is to also open up the Display Driver or NvidiaInspector too and check the various settings on the fly.  Once you change a setting, just hit apply changes.  Still have bad AA? Change to something else.  The same AA/AF settings do not work the same for everyone as everyone has a different system with different addons and it may or may not be overclocked.  So you have to play with the settings until you like them and they work for your system.

Best regards,

Jim

Thank you Jim.

I've followed all the tweak guides for quite some time, both Word Not Allowed and Nick's. The only ones that did anything were HighMemFix, AffinityMask=14 and BufferPools=0. I can run the last one with no artifacts because autogen is set to none. I've never liked autogen and it's impact on FPS, but then again, I'm at FL340 most of the time :>)

I wasn't aware that you could set Inspector on the fly in windowed mode. I'll certainly check that out as saving as a test flight and reloading is time consuming at best.
