Taxiway edge widening

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm currently working on an airport using ADE, I have the taxiways and runways in place, accurately positioned over a satellite image. From the satellite image I can see that there are strips of tarmac either side of the runway and taxiways, effectively making them wider, but outside the yellow lines on either side.

I figure that the easiest way to put these in is with the Aprons tool, however because there are quite a large number of taxiways to do this to, I am wondering if it is better to use many small aprons or fewer large aprons. Which would be better in terms of performance within FSX?

Regards,

Since all aprons are rendered as 'triangles' the actual number is less relevant than the overall area covered by them. A single large rectangular apron can contain more triangles than a number of smaller aprons.

However this issue is primarily of relevance to FS9 since it is possible to get a buffer overflow in the Microsoft Compiler. This does not happen in FSX and is not relevant to tools such as AFCAD or AFX.

To answer your question it probably does not matter. The amount of effort the graphics engine will have to render your aprons mostly depends on the total area they cover.
