Alphasim planes what's your opinion?

Featured Replies

Hi all,I have quite a few planes from Bill Lyon and Realair and I'm tempted by some of the Alphasim ones but I don't really recall seeing much about them in the forum.Does anyone have any opinions on the Alphasim planes? Thanks,Jon

Hi Jon,I have bought quite a few over the years. It's a mixed bag. Some are pretty good (C-130), while others fail the model accuracy test pretty badly (A-4F). That's critical for me if I'm going to pay for something. I have really been put off lately by Phil's attitude toward any customer who dares question the models. But, as I said, some are pretty good and are fairly reasonable in price. Just don't expect Captain Sim quality.Best,Todd

they do a large varity of planes that are not available elseware, i have a few and considering the price am pretty pleased with them, i'm getting the Lightning tommorow :)

I have the F-111 Aardvark and it's my favorite in the entire library. Spend a lot of the time in spot view,,it looks that good. Flies like a dream. I use it for carries ops, after adding catapult and tailhook gauges.John

I'd agree with Bruce & Todds' comments for the most part. Generally their models are not quite up to RealAir standard, but priced accordingly. I have the Orlenik, which is a bizarre model and a hoot to fly. Also the new Lightning F1/F2 which is very good. The latest Alphasim models are made by some very accomplished designers and consequently a lot better than some of the previous offerings. If you see something you fancy, I'd say check the forums for user comments and go for it.LonelyplanetXO

Got the Alphasim Lightning yesterday. Is this the supposed freeware model promised from TLUK as announced on Avsim on 24th July? If you search for "daniel dunn" +lightning on Google, you'll find a link to the Avsim new archive. The arrival of a Lightning on Alphsim coincided almost exactly with the disappearance of the TLUK website, which is unavailable (to me at least).http://www.tlukdesign.co.uk/Also there were hints of "something happening" last time I looked at the TLUK forum, which I assumed would be its release.Anyway, I tried the Alphasim Lightning briefly late last night. 2D cockpit bit disappointing although probably intended for VC, which is better if only I could get my old system to get the gauges going faster than 1 refresh in 5 seconds.Externally, visually fantastic is not too strong a description IMHO. Only slight moan is that reheat effect requires a Cntrl F4 keystroke. To me, virtually unflyable, incredibly sensitive in roll, stalls at the drop of a hat.But perhaps that's me! Be interested to hear from someone with a bit more knowledge of fighters of this type.
