Side-by-Side Config Issue in Win8

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am a complete Newbie to the AVSIM forums. The main reason I am here is, because I heard that it is the best place to find solutions for FSX Issues.

I recently bought a new Notebook PC (i5@ 2,6GHz; 6GB RAM; Nvidia GeForce 740M nd Win 8 :-( ). Although I am thoroughly impressed with the new machine, FSX has started somehow clashing with WIN8.

After FSX and the Acceleration expansion pack FSX worked perfectly for a couple of weeks. Now all of a sudden, upon running FSX I get an error message mentioning something with the Side by Side Configuration: "The application could not be executed because of an invalid Side-by-Side configuration."

A screenshot of the error-message is attached. Unfortunately in German, as I am running a German Version of the OS.

I would appreciate it if someone could be of assistance!

Many Thanks!!! :-)

Ok just saw that the screenshot uploaded twice by accident. Sorry about that.

This is, I strongly believe, a SimConnect issue.  Did you install SimConnect after installing Acceleration?  As I recall, the problem can be fixed with updated versions of Microsoft Visual C++2005 and maybe 2008.  Here's a link to the latest 2005 -

http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=26347 and here's a link to the latest 2008 - http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=26368.  Make sure you install only the x86 (32 bit) versions as FSX is a 32 bit program.  It makes no difference if you have the 64 bit version of Windows 8 installed.  FSX still needs the 32 bit versions.

You also want to make sure you have versions 1.1 thru the latest versions of Microsoft.net installed.  You can check for the versions installed by looking in Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework (x86)\ then the versions.

If this doesn't work, then you need to reinstall SimConnect by following the directions over in the FS Developer's forum - http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:SimConnect.  You also want to make sure you click on SDK Installation and Troubleshooting.

Best regards,

Jim
