June 18, 201312 yr Hi, Thinking of buying a 'cinemawide' screen for running FSX, but am not sure what drives the resolution I would get on screen - is it the monitor, video card or FSX? I don't want to buy one and find I get the same picture as a wide screen, but just stretched! And ideas? thanks
June 18, 201312 yr Based on my experience with running FSX on a pretty decent laptop (yes, laptop...Alienware to be exact), the screen resolution can be setup in FSX first (your choice of windowed or non) but before you start setting up FSX, be sure to check the specs of your video card to ensure that you can run higher resolutions. For example, most recent video cards can run all resolutions that FSX shows, including the 16 and 32 bit depths but when it comes to FPS (Frames Per Second), this is where the true test of your video cards abilities come into play. I have read countless forums dealing with system setup, FSX setup, etc. to achieve optimal operation but I guess it really depends on your desire for either realism of flight, or just flat out eye candy gaming. I hear what you are saying about "stretched" resolutions, and that agin is based on the resolutions of your monitor vs. resolutions utilized in FSX. Remember that the higher the resolution, as well as how high of detail you run, the more your video card will be taxed and you could take some FPS hits along the way. My best suggestion is to set everything up based on trial and error. Get a decent base set up such as setting your FSX resolution the same as the resolution as your monitor and then run FSX a few times, changing up the settings to get a feel for what to expect, as well as whether this will satisfy your usage.
