Scenery.cfg file problem

Featured Replies

Hi all, could someone help me out with this issue, I installed an Airport scenery addon which unfortunately didn't work out so I deleted it as there was no uninstall program with it, it went into my addon scenery folder but as of now when I run FSX I get the prompt SCENERY ,CFG file error. Invalid Remote Scenery path in scenery Area. 115, Click OK to continue. I've tried all the suggestions from other post's to no prevail, so if I was to insert the FSX disc's again and select repair would that work and to do that I guess I would have to return to default FSX with GEX,UTX,REX,ORBX and UT2 installed before I proceed or is there any other way around this?. Hope this makes sense to somebody.

Cheers Rod.

What area is 115 in your library? Do you mean 'Base 115' or is it an addon slot?

Just delete the entry if it is the addon. (do NOT delete if it is a Base XXX entry)

Edit: I checked, but there is no 0115 BASE. So check what it says on line 115 in you .cfg.

Hi Mork thanks for the reply, in my scenery library it's named Base 0503 if that helps.

What do you see if you look in the root map of fsx: \scenery\0503\scenery ?

Is it empty? Because then you deleted some FSX default stuff. I'm not familiar with the 'repair' function, so i cant tell if that will overwrite important things.

I know that if you have OrbX, you can run FTX Central and validate your scenery.cfg. Maybe it will tell you what file it is missing.

If you take a moment and think about what the dialog message is telling you, then the "fix" is easy.

FSX cannot find the location for layer #115; Addon Scenery. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to where your FSX installation is and see if you have a \FSX\Addon Scenery\scenery and \texture folder. If not, add them with Windows Explorer and then go restart FSX. The dialog box should not reappear.

Yeh hi I do have the two folders in the Addon Scenery folder and have tried that fix but it still appears. Those two folders in the Addon Scenery folder are empty.

Cheers Rod.

Are you running with FSX Acceleration or a SP1/SP2 install?

You list Win7 as your OS, so I'm figuring you will find the active Scenery.cfg file at this address;

C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\FSX

If you have "show hidden files..." active you can open Scenery.cfg with Notepad or other plain text editor. You would be looking for Layer=115, not [Area.115]. That will give you the location of the folder that FSX says it cannot find.

Meshman, in the Scenery.cfg file there is a Layer=115 but I'm not sure what you mean by the location of the folder or why FSX can't find it.

Thanks guys for your contribution but I've got it fixed, I did find the addon scenery layer in the library deleted it restarted fsx and the pop up is now gone, back to normal, the thought of a reinstall is mind boggling.

Thanks again

Cheers Rod.
