Landing and Departing

Featured Replies

Is there anyway for RC to see a landing ONLY departing ONLY runway? I have them set in AFCAD but RC still don't recognize them. I know the KIAH airport use 26L/26R/27/8L/8R for landing 15L/15R sometime 9 for departure but it still tell me landing runway 15L then I have to request the proper rwy.

Unfortunately you cannot close only one end of a runway for departure or landing. They have to be identical. For example 05R at EGCC is a landing only runway but this cannot be reflected in the AFCAD. This isn't a fault with RC4 but with FS2004/FSX.

The only way this can be done is with multiple AFCADs for an airport. If you search the AvSim Library you may find someone has created them for KIAH.

RC's first priority is ai behavior. AS Ray stated FS does not respect one way runways. Both ends of a runway must be set the same.

What some people do is to use two afcads  each with both ends set for landing or take off activating one or the other. Which one you choose requires knowledge of how FS assigns runways for ai, which is quite complex, using a scoring system which includes winds, aircraft type, runway length, and runway navaids. For each type of aircraft a certain amount of tailwind and crosswind component is allowed.

Where you have parallel runways try setting both ends of the longer runway for take-off and both ends of the shorter runway for arrival. In the case of take-off large aircraft will position on the area between a displaced threshold and the pavement beginning unless that pavement is a runover type which is not suitable even for taxiing. That is because more surface stress occurs at the touchdown area then starting a roll for take-off. Large aircraft will position to have the full runway length available especially in case of aborts and poor lift off performance in hot weather plus airport density altitude effects.
