July 5, 201312 yr Hello, I am having an issue with the client LWE control. My connections are working fine, folders and permissions all set. I can do everything except when I press any of the text report buttons, like the flight plan report button, nothing happens. If I look into the Themes folder on the server machine, I can see the various reports updated. Coincidentally, when I try to exit the client application on the client machine I get an unhandled exception error and the program won't close. This will not happen if I do not attempt to press any of the text report buttons. Everything else is fine, I can process flight plans , update weather , even generate the in sim reports such as upper atmosphere report and the like. Thanks for your help! Eric
July 6, 201312 yr Commercial Member Thanks for the report. OpusFSX uses your default text editor to open the reports. What have you got assigned as your default text editor program? Have you tried opening the server's text files manually from the client? Regards Cheryl
July 6, 201312 yr Author My default is notepad. Yes, I can manually open the reports after I click on the appropriate button, I can browse to the themes folder and manually open the report from the client.
July 6, 201312 yr Commercial Member If your FSXCLIENT is unable to open the report files then you have something missing from your sharing, sharing permissions, and security permission that is blocking the program's access. It does not have your access rights. Please check the Everyone group in both security and sharing permissions on the servers drive and folders, this group must be present with Full Control. Also check anything else that might block access. You will not be able to access from an XP client as well. There is nothing else that would stop the report being displayed in Notepad, only your network security. Stephen Check that 'Everyone' user group in both sets of permissions, both sharing and security, on both the server's drive and OpusFSX folder, check you have shared Files and Folders etc. 9 times out of 10 it is a simple matter of either not sharing sharing the drive correctly or setting the permissions ... Your drive MUST be shared as C, not renamed to anything else, just use the drive letter as that is what the FSXCLIENT program expects. If the Everyone user group does not exist then Add it. Stephen
July 6, 201312 yr Author Stephen, that was the trick. It works if I share my whole C drive , along with the OpusFsx folder. Which begs the question, does it have to be that way? I'm not really comfortable hanging my whole drive out there like that .
July 6, 201312 yr Commercial Member I have mine set that way and I'm on line all day long almost 24/7. Its perfectly OK because there will be added security over any public network. Normally disk drives are not accessible over any Internet links, the limitations to the web software and your Firewall will take care of that. Anyway, that's the only way we know or bother with, any additional security or complexity would have to be your responsibility, I cannot advise that way on anyone's network. Its bad enough explaining how to share drives and folders. Stephen
July 6, 201312 yr Author I certainly can understand that ! I do appreciate your support and timely response. I am actually more concerned with sharing the whole drive on my own network than the internet, but now that I understand the issue I can work with it. BTW your software is incredible, and support is second to none. KUDOS Eric
July 6, 201312 yr Commercial Member Many thanks Eric. You should also check out the SimForums Coming Soon topic, might post something here in the near future. We will soon be posting the next release version and starting a new beta development cycle including the Live Weather Assistant. The latest beta also allows you to display the various Opus Weather Report windows from the client system. Stephen
