October 26, 200421 yr Hi, Does anyone know if there is anything available to make the stars in flight sim. 09 look more real? The skys look kindof empty at night. Thank yu, S.
October 26, 200421 yr Prior to the update to FS 9.1 I was using a neat little program called "Autostar" by Chris Wright. But since the patch I now get a runtime error 52 when I try to use the program. Shame too because it really filled the sky with real stars and their positions by date. Chris if you listening... please update your Autostar program to work with the patch.
October 26, 200421 yr Author To make stars look better, you just need real_stars.zip here in the library or at the boeing 314 clipper site. It increases the number of accurately positioned stars to something like 9000.To really make the night sky accurate, autostar will add properly positioned planets to the night sky! Really awesome.I still use autostar after the FS9.1 patch without issue! Be sure to search the forums here - I don't think it's in the library. There were several updates available from Chris' website as well...Also, post-patch, you may need to copy over the stars.dat file from real_stars.zip or copy it to stars_base.dat for autostar to work.Chris might see this post as well...Good luck, it's a great program!Feel free to email me if you can't find the program, or are having issues getting it to run - I'll be happy to share my setup tips.(email in sig)Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
October 26, 200421 yr As Scott said, real_stars.zip from the 314 Clipper site really makes a difference. From about 1400 stars rendered with the default stars.dat file, it will put 9095 stars in the night sky. You can edit the file to suit your preference by editing this line:NumStars=9095to 1600, 5025 or 9095 stars displayed. It's available here:http://www.b314clipper.comClick on 'Support' and 'Downloads', Real Stars V1.0 is near the bottom of the page. There is another stars.dat file mod named stars_dat.zip. by J. Chuang. I don't remember where I got it (back with FS2002), so if you want to try it you'll need to search for it. It displays 4995 stars.Autostar isn't working for me either, I get a 'runtime error 76' with FS9.1. Douglas
October 26, 200421 yr "Autostar isn't working for me either, I get a 'runtime error 76' with FS9.1."... this is odd. I have the 9.1 update installed and, having just checked, Autostar's behaviour remains unchanged - it still works fine. Therefore, I would suggest in this instance that Autostar is not at fault.Try reinstalling Autostar and apply the updates. I believe there were 2 which took it up to version 1.02 on 10 May 2004.MikeP4 2.4GHz (400FSB), 1Gig PC2100 DDR Crucial, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (Omega 2.5.90), SB Audigy (5.12.0001.0443), Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" TFT LCD 20ms Monitor (1280x1024x32), Gigabyte GA-8IRXP MoBo, Ultra-Quiet PSU 400W, WinXP Home (SP2), DirectX 9.0c, AGP Aperture = 128MB
October 26, 200421 yr Mike,I have version 1.03 dated 19th October 2004, but you're probably right when you say Autostar is not at fault, since it's working for you and for others!:)Douglas
October 26, 200421 yr Author People with autostar errors should make certain that both stars.dat and stars_base.dat still exist in the main FS9 folder after the patch, and that the stars.dat file is still the version that you have selected in autostar setup (fs9 default stars.dat or real_stars)...I reinstalled FS from scratch, patched, then installed all of my addons including autostar w/ realstars, and I have no problems at all...Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
October 26, 200421 yr I've tried it many different ways Scott, with different .dat files etc., and still no go. I've seen this before with Windows XP, an application won't run or didn't install correctly for whatever reason and XP maintains that status quo until you convince it otherwise by doing a system restore or reinstalling the O/S. As I said before, it
October 26, 200421 yr Author Cool. I had a problem with it at some point though, I can't remember the error I got, and an email to chris sorted it all out. That might be an option. Also, I've got the whole autostar folder zipped up - happy to share, just drop a line...One last thought - you do have autostar in c:program filesautostar right? Might be AutoASM i'm thinking about, but one of Chris' programs had fairly strict path requirements...Okay, I'll let it go now :) Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
October 26, 200421 yr >>>>One last thought - you do have autostar in c:program filesautostar right? Might be AutoASM i'm thinking about, but one of Chris' programs had fairly strict path requirements...:)Step #1 is a little vague about a strict requirement for the path: "1. Create a new directory where you want to install AutoStar (e.g. c:program filesautostar)."Note that it does not say you must install to c:program filesautostar, it only gives that location as an example (he uses e.g. or exempli gratia - Latin meaning
October 27, 200421 yr Hi, I have gone to this website and I do not see the stars download. All I see is for airplane, the clippper. I must be overlooking something? Thank you all for you help, S.
October 27, 200421 yr Author It's under support in the downloads section, all the way at the bottom of that page.Direct link:http://www.fsim.net/b314clipper/files/real_stars.zip [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
