July 22, 201312 yr Has anyone already tried this product?According to what they say, it will be compatible with FTX Global textures. but will the new FTX Global autogen also be replaced? openvfr autogen
July 22, 201312 yr I haven't tried this particular product from them, although I am generally a fan of a lot of their other addons, As well, FTX global hasn't been released, so nobody is in a position to answer the question yet. A couple points though: -It very well may be compatible with FTX Global, but the main purpose of the scenery is to be a compliment to photoscenery like TileProxy, not landclass based scenery. I can't imagine OpenVFR's Autogen will be superior to ORBX's and even if it is, it may not line up well with the default landclass that will be used by FTX Global. -A better compliment to FTX Global would be OpenVFR Terrain, since it improves areas that FTX global won't touch, like coastlines and roads. OpenVFR buildings may be an option as well, but from my experience, they caused me a LOT of OOM crashes until I switched to DX10. looks great though.
July 22, 201312 yr I wouldn't use any of these products with FTXG because FTXG comes with its own carefully annotated autogen. It could well be openVFR makes a mess of it all.. I am not sure if openVFR Terrain is about landclass (in which case I would wait for OpenLC) or about vector data (roads, waters, etc.) in which case it might be the only thing worth using with FTXG. Unless you have UTX already. And btw the Autogen addon doesn't give you new autogen (like FTXG does) but afaik it simply puts the default autogen in locations which comes from OSM. I wonder (and doubt) if the new placement takes the ground textures into account... All in all I don't find openVFR very appealing: it seems cheap but to cover a larger area with terrain, vector data and autogen, you will have to pass on quite a lot of cash...
July 22, 201312 yr I'm an OpenVFR user. OpenVFR terrain is a UTX-like program that provides vector and landclass. (In some areas It looks better than UTX, not in some others, the vegetative landclass is generally superior) It's based on openstreetmaps which means that it's not great where info is scarce like the Congo for example, but then even in those areas it's still far far better than default, and UTX doesn't exist. South america is almost fully covered, and theyr'e the only game in town there.
