Why does one throttle sometimes stop working?

Featured Replies

Hi,I have noticed an odd little problem over the last few months.Sometimes, for seemingly no reason at all, the throttle that controls engine No2 on twins will stop working. The joystick and keys will still operate throttle No1, but No2 seems dead, and no amount of pressing "E + 1,2" or any off the usal key combinations will get it working again.I have had it happen in both the Aeroworx B200 and the Eurowings ATRAny idea why this sometimes happens?Dan.

Hi Dan,Most probably you hit the "E" key accidentally, or in the wrong fase (when online chatting perhaps). This will select Engine-1 functions. The reason you cannot undo this by typing "E" "1" "2" in a quick sequence (which would work for any standard default aircraft), is most probably caused by an ill-designed gauge in your panel, which continuously gives events to FS.When such an event is received within the keysequence, FS gets confused on ignores the "1" and "2" in the key sequence. (and gauges usually run at a 55 msec interval)You probably have the same problem when opening Exit-2 or with turning after a pushack ("1" after "Shift-P")To verify if your panel has such a " faulty" gauge:- Open Exit-2 (default key "Shift-E" followed by "2")- If you get the FS message " Main exit opening ....", your panel does contain such an ill-behaving gauge.CHeers, Rob

Interesting, I don't think I have hit the E key when I have had the problem, I have most of the commands mapped to my joystick, and as such dont hardly touch the keyboard.I will try the exit 2 thingy, but I am sure the second exit works on the B200, but I'll try it anyway. Thanks for the reply Rob.Dan.

I used to have this problem too, and never really found what was causing it. It seems to have gone away since I bought my CH yoke, and only use the throttle on that, but I guess that would be a rather expensive solution for you. One thing I've found that helps in general is to delete all the default keyboard assignments that you never use, or that you have allocated to a stick or yoke or whatever. It seems to irritate FS sometimes when things are assigned to the keyboard AND another HID, but it could be my imagination..Hope this helpsRegardsGrahame (EDHL)

Hi Dan,If the Exit-2 DOES work OK (via keyboard commands Shift-E and 2), I really can't think of any reason why "E" "1" "2" wouldn't solve the problem. Are you sure the "E" key is still used for "Select Engine" ??Check you fs9.cfg file: - It should contain one line:ENGINE=69,8- The command ENGINE should not be assigned to any other key or button- The key 69,8 ("E") should only have one occurance in the fs9.cfg file.Cheers, Rob

Hello Everyone:Check your keyboard config (in FS) for the "Select Engine" entry - if there is anything there - delete it. Restart FS - problem solved! :)

Sorry, but you are wrong.IF/WHEN there's a problem with bad/duplicate key/button assignments, it's in the fs9.cfg file itself. Whatever you see/do in menu Options-Controls-Assignments is merely a reflection of what is specified in the fs9.cfg file. And IF/WHEN there is something wrong in file fs9.cfg, the result of it's representation in the menu is just unpredictable.Rob

Well, I've had this problem since FS2002. It was mostly caused by inadvertently hitting the "E" key when typing on squakbox without the squakbox window being in focus. Then, hitting this then causes one of the throttles to stop responding.......however, it still responds when you use the mouse on the throttle window.I solved this at first by ensuring that I had the squakbox window in focus but every now and again, I would accidently hit the "E" key again. So finally, I went into the assignments menu and deleted the "E" key for "Select Engines". After that, I've never had a problem again. I do the same thing now that I have FS9 and haven't had the problem at all.Try deleting the "E" key in the assignments menu. That should solve the problem.

Yes, it COULD help.BUT, the original poster argued that he doesn't hit the "E" key, so something else causes the SELECT ENGINES command to be given.Which, if he's right about not using "E", must be a problem in his fs9.cfg file which is NOT visible in the Assignments menu ...Removing "E" from the assignments menu only removes the INTENDED trigger for SELECT ENGINE, NOT the bogy one :-)Unless it's a problem in the aircraft itself, but since he has the problem with 2 aircraft, that's very unlikely.Rob
