Strange jumping?

Featured Replies

I added affinity mask 14 to my .cfg, and now it starts jumping, almost like a REALLY low fps, but my frames are still in the mid thirties. I have i7 3770K @3.5ghz and a gtx 670 if that helps, any ideas on how to rectify?

Don't use it? If it works, you might get a little bit of extra stability in that sense that FSX doesn't run on core 0 like most program's do by default. That way it is less likely that a sudden need of CPU-time by another application can interfere with FSX. But it is very subtle and most don't even notice a difference.

If it gives you bad results I would ignore it.

I do use AF=14, but I have an I5 2500k. Are you sure your CPU doesn't have hyperthreading and that you are using the right number voor the I7 3770K? I don't have time to look it up, but you can find it by Googling I'm sure.

In any case, I wouldn't put too much time in this 'tweak' but it won't be your magic bullet anyway.

During my tests the affinity mask even had a slightly bad influence on the loading of textures... but as with all tweaks it works different on every computer. If you get 'jumping', simply don't use it.

Using AffinityMask=14 with HT enabled will force FSX to use the Cores 1,2 and 3. Cores 2 and 3 are the same physical core (Core 2 is the physical core, Core 3 is the associated HT core) so you're only using 2 cores of your Quad-core CPU and also overloading one of the cores with two threads.

Either remove this "tweak", disable HT or look up the correct value to use with HT.
