Intel/AMD CPU Speeds

Featured Replies

Can someone explain the difference between the cpu speeds. For example, the Core i7 4770k vs FX 9370. Intel 4 cores @ 3.5ghz and AMD 8 cores @ 4.4ghz. Looking at a comparison I found on google, I saw the i7 clock speed faster than AMD. How can that be with AMD @ 4.4ghz? Is it marketing or the way the processor's made? Little confusing, since I've never bought AMD before. Also, does flightsim utilize each core (1 or 2 depending on fs9/fsx) at that clock speed? Thanks.

Marketing? No, that couldn't be... The magical term I like to use is throughput, as in how do all the pieces (ram, cpu, mobo, etc.) do when put together. At least when it comes to FSX/FS9 Intel does a better job when it comes to throughput.

So I'm assuming that the test I saw was done using the same ram, cpu, mobo, etc. for both. Kinda thought it was the engineering involved. Results weren't dramatic, but were noticable. I've always know that flightsim was cpu hungy. Just didn't know if the higher ghz from AMD meant anything. Putting together a new rig for flightsim now and will be staying with Intel. Not saying AMD is bad. Just been using Intel since I can remember, and never had any issues. Thanks for the insight.

Just wondering... If you are nicknamed Kramerdc9, why in the heck do you have a picture of Costanza for an avatar???

Anyway, I bought parts for a new build and it was Intel and nVidia for me. AMD once was able to keep up, but that's been years back.

I like them both. I have used the name kramerdc9 for so long, just didn't want to change it :)

Your electric bill be higher with amd 9350 220 volt tdp. Amd far behind on single core performance other applications. My fx6300 does just fine outside of fsx and xplane as six cores will be good to have when multicore applications become more common like it for graphics and editing have more cores. Use i5 3570k for fsx and all upgrade in four years.

Simply put, Intel do better on single threaded applications, I use AMD but Intel perform much better clock for clock.
