August 6, 201312 yr I would like to know the depth of accuracy with opus' engine. Are wind shears possible? Clear air turbulance? Micro/ Macro bursts near CB/TS? Drafts? Jetstream? How much data is collected to be used? If I fly though a CB could I expect to experience vertical shifts? Also is it possible to model wake turbulence and icing? -Icing: When it is present, opus could slowly decrease the efficiency of the wings, increase aircraft weight, clog pitot tubes etc unless deicing equipement is used- if it can handle it. -Wake tubulence: based on size radius of ai plane and speed Thoughts?
August 6, 201312 yr Commercial Member The OpusFSX LWE maintains nearly one million meteorological parameters to inject the weather and provide intelligent turbulence supervision and effects at all levels, calculated based on a great number of parameters and controlled using RW captured 3D accelerometer data of all real life low and high frequency turbulent motions. This includes wind shears and clear air turbulence. The simulator is responsible for the behaviour of the aircraft for wind shears, the LWE determines the severity of the wind shears which at the moment can be associated with CBs and reported squalls. Icing levels are also specified when the weather is injected. Again the simulator and aircraft sim controls the efficiency of the wings not the LWE. Wake turbulence data cannot be injected, there is no such provision so again that is down to the simulator not the LWE. This is really a simulator responsibility and nothing to do with weather injection. Stephen
August 7, 201312 yr Commercial Member I should have also mentioned the GRIB forecast data provides accurate wind and temperature forecasts for the upper atmosphere. This data is used by the LWE to determine all upper winds and temperatures from 4000 feet up to FL540. Stephen
