SPD vs Mach

When I'm descending and the FCU speed window is in the Mach mode, how should I order the F/O to change speed?

I ordered in knots saying e.g. 'pull speed 290' but the speed was still shown in Mach and I saw no difference until I manually changed from Mach into SPD.

Only then I could monitor the F/O changing next speed values according to what I was telling him using the '... speed XXX' phrase.

 

So the question is: do I have to manually switch from Mach to SPD, can I somehow order the F/O to do it or is it a kind of bug as the F/O is expected to do it on his own?

Manually change to Speed first in that case.

 

We don't currently handle Mach.

I know, I know. I'm just too hard core sometimes and I happen to be a pain in my own .

Actually I still like clicking this autopilot stuff from time to time!

As the Pilot Flying and Captain with the autopilot on in cruise, technically you're the one who should be setting the autopilot panel anyway :-)
