November 6, 200421 yr The Numpad keys enable you to walk through the cabin - RTFM. I must say having been taken to task by the AC fans I am starting to warm more to this product, particularly because I have now found that my MP3 problem was due to having the Win Media player toolbar enabled on the taskbar, remove this and the display distortion goes. I'm still not a fan of mouse panning while pressing on the mouse wheel - a sure recipe for RSI - but I like the 737NG wing views you can create and after some experimentation the runway padlock function is revealing its usefullness for sharp turns onto final just a couple of nm from the threshold - always wondered how real pilots manage this in larger aircraft such as the Saab 340B at small airports with minimal navaids.Bruce Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." November 6, 200421 yr I enjoy doing this>for hours but then again i am a world renowned aircraft>spotter. :( >Something I didn't mention in the review, because I didn't want people to get the wrong impression, is that you can easily use AC for aircraft-spotting.If you have something like Ultimate Traffic, go to a busy airport like Heathrow or JFK, and turn up traffic to 100%. You can spend hours walking (or running) round the aprons, looking at exotic aircraft from all over the world. Or you can just sit by the side of the runway and watch them all landing. Not that I would ever do that myself. Except perhaps, you understand, purely for research in connection with a review. ;-)
November 6, 200421 yr hit F12 and the mouse panning is on by defualt. no need to press the wheel now...
November 6, 200421 yr I've been intrigued by this product but worried about impact on performance. I've tweaked and tweaked every FPS out of system and still stay just above 16fps. I fly almost exclusively GA add-on aircraft (FDS's Aerostar 700, Cheyenne, and Commander and Flight 1's 172R). I use ActiveSky, Flightkeeper and FSNav. Thus every performance hit is precious to me, especially in bad weather. What is the performance hit with AS? thanx
November 6, 200421 yr The performance hit is almost impercetible on my system (and my system ain't bleeding edge by any stretch of the imagination). The funny thing is, even when the framerates are at their worst (like low teens), I find the mouse panning in the VC still feels far more smooth than using the hat switch without AC. I was expecting there'd be more of a hit, but I was pleasantly surprised.
November 6, 200421 yr In my tests I didn't see any measurable difference. Thinking about it, I wouldn't really expect to. Basically all AC is doing is just giving you different views of what you normally see. Normally framerate hits come from panels or planes or scenery that use particular textures. However AC doesn't add textures. If you get, say, 20 fps in the VC of a particular plane, then you should get 20 fps in whichever particular view AC gives you of that VC. AC probably uses the same amount of resource in switching between views as you would swivelling round with your coolie hat.
November 7, 200421 yr Thanks, but of course if I want to use the mouse for other things, tune radios, engage autopilot etc then I have to press F12 again. On balance the coolie hat is a better option. Now not as convinced as I had been on the head latency feature, I like the up down effect but find the lateral movement while banking just looks like the stutters. Talking of stutters/pauses I'm still not sure if there are more of them with AC after flying around Seattle for the last day or so with and without AC. Certainly no impact on FPS but I just get the impression that you get more pauses over the CBD with AC enabled. I would like to buy this thing in order to get the multiple PMDG 737NG wing views - which after initial scepticism I have become quite taken by and the runway padlock thing (after some customisation on its use), but still weighing up any counterbalancing negatives.Bruce Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." November 7, 200421 yr I still tend to do most of my button pushing in the 2D panel view ftmp so panning around the VC for me is more of a sight-seeing feature. As far as stutters, I'm not seeing any with or without AC. I'm not very fond of stutters and when they start appearing I start looking for ways to terminate with extreme prejudice. :)
November 7, 200421 yr There is a program called "Viewpoint" which you can use for spotting. It is set up like an aircraft, but looks like a bus. Has a panel with freq's for the ground, tower, et. al..Switch to it instead of an aircraft, and you have a viewpoint like from a Tower, but you can use it from anywhere. Usually (Press Y) I set it near the end of a runway, slightly left or right of it. Pressing W, you can eliminate the panel. Then, with my Hat Switch can scan around, to watch the touchdowns on the runway, or watch aircraft on approach, etc..
November 7, 200421 yr > I've been intrigued by this product > but worried about impact on performance. Ive been putting off getting the SP2 update for XP, as my frame rate was averaging about 12-14fps ... This week, after installing it, ran FS9 _without_ removing any services. Result, locked at 20fps, got a steady 19.2-19.8 fps!Blew me away, as normally I run FSautostart, and remove all programs including Norton, leaving 11 services. WITH 49 services, Norton virus protection, Diskeeper, MemTurbo, Webshots, Cleansweep-Smartsweep,installed still had 19.2-19.8 fps!Now will try it with FSautostart, and 1024 for sharper panel.Intel® 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller.0]Mode=800x600x32
