November 4, 200421 yr Hi all recently purchased a P4 3.0 Ghz sytem, asus P5P800 MB, 1 gig of ram, saphire radeon 256 mb video card. I am using the ATR 72 from Flight 1 and have just conducted a flight into Dublin airport from IFSD with scery set to high, 3d clouds at 10%, I am only seeing frame rates around 12-15 on approach. surely i can get better from this from my system. i don't even have AI turned on....any suggestions to boost frame rates as i was certainly expecting a more fluid flying experience than what i am getting so far??
November 5, 200421 yr Author Hi,What's the fluidity like when you are flying one of the default a/c?The ATR 72-500 does hit performance quite significantly. However, Flight One have provided a helpful Configuration Manager utility which allows you to make the necessary compromises. I don't think I would be able to use their 32 bit textures without significant performance penalty. Fortunately the provided DXT3 alternatives are more than acceptable and allow me to enjoy this wonderful creation.MikeP4 2.4GHz (400FSB), 1Gig PC2100 DDR Crucial, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (Omega 2.5.90), SB Audigy (5.12.0001.0443), Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" TFT LCD 20ms Monitor (1280x1024x32), Gigabyte GA-8IRXP MoBo, Ultra-Quiet PSU 400W, WinXP Home (SP2), DirectX 9.0c, AGP Aperture = 128MB
November 5, 200421 yr I haven't got the ATR (yet), but I'm pretty sure if I did I'd have problems with it on my relatively old system (P4 2ghz, 433mhz FSB (I think but sure as hell not 800mhz) 1gb DDR ram, FX5900 128mb video card). Yours would eat that for breakfast!Leaving the ATR aside for a minute, I get frame rates better than that with scenery at mediumish, quite a bit of AI and clouds at 70%.Three things I've noticed:1) I just couldn't live without AI - have you replaced your aircraft with specially designed low polygon AI models like Aardvark, FSPainter, ARNZ?2) Clouds seem to be the biggest frame rate killer around. Try Chris Willis' more efficient clouds which are available in the library.3) And now for the bit about the ATR. I've tried a couple of Aerodesigns aircraft. These have virtual cabins as well as virtual cockpits. They kill my system stone dead. Normally I can manage a virtual cockpit (e.g. PSS Airbus A320, Posky 757) but I think the cabin is just too much of an overload, even when I'm not looking at it. I'm sure it's a novelty to inspect the galley and the toilet once, but I think can live without it. As I understand it, the ATR, unlike Aerodesigns, provides options as to how much you load, from 2D panel up to VC and VCabin. Can I suggest you load the plane without the cabin and see if that is better?
November 5, 200421 yr I assume you installed Windows on your hardrive. Did you also install updated motherboard controller chip drivers? Usually ASUS will provide a CD with the drivers. However, there may be more recent drivers available from the controller chip vendor.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
