Overclock not persistent?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Need a bit of advice regarding overclocking. I've had my rig overclocked at 4.2 for a while and wanted to up it to 4.5, which I did in the BIOS. Core voltage at 1.20v

Stress tested with no probs with temps in mid 70s.

Thought that was all done when a few days later I happened to start Core Temp to double check the temps and noticed it reported the cpu running at 4.2. Opened CPU-Z and that reported the same.

Double checked the BIOS and that was still set at 4.5!

What speed is my rig running at?? Anyone any ideas?

Many thanks for any help

Regards

Alan

Double-check if you have a Turbo Limit (Watts) and/or Core Current Limit (Amps) or similar options in BIOS. They would be set to 84W / 95A by default. If so, set them to something ridiculous like 1000.

If you have speedstep enabled, the CPU will only run at its maximum speed when CPU load is actually 100%. At idle, it can downclock itself to as little as 800 MHz to reduce power.
