August 24, 201312 yr I have yet to buy X palne. I am thinking about setting up a good gaming system in my basement with big screen LCD TV and CH products control yoke. I need a good computer system specifically designed for flight simulators. Your input is appreciated. __________________
August 24, 201312 yr Well, some important points for X-Plane: Huge amounts of memory, which means at least 16 GB of RAM and a graphics card with 4 GB something in the region of the GTX 770 or higher and a fast i7 or i5 but no overclocking needed. Karsten Schubert
August 24, 201312 yr I'm sure that Longranger's recommendations will run everything that XPX will throw at it, but I run comfortably with an i5, 8 GB of RAM, and a ASUS NVidia GTX560 Direct CUII OC Video Card with 1 GB of RAM. I use no overclocking. I use CH Products pedals and Saitek ProFlight yoke and dual throttle quadrants. I am able to run with "decent" graphics settings with FRs in the 40s - sometimes 50s (No HDR). I really can't tell much difference when using HDR except for a 40% drop in FRs. John John Wingold
August 24, 201312 yr Basically, the biggest factor is going to be your budget. What is the resolution of your monitor/TV (as that is going to be a major factor in what you need for a GPU)? Pretty much EVERYTHING (from CPU speed to memory speed) has some impact on how well X-Plane (and other flightsims) runs. So you have to weigh what you want to spend with what you've willing to live with as far as performance.. @ Longranger, the GTX 770 only comes with 2GB of VRAM (which is one of the reasons I went with the GTX 780, which has 3GBs). ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
August 24, 201312 yr @ Longranger, the GTX 770 only comes with 2GB of VRAM (which is one of the reasons I went with the GTX 780, which has 3GBs). Not always. There are some companies that offer the 770 with 4 GB like the Gainward GeForce GTX 770 Phantom, 4GB DDR5They aren't offered so much since for most applications so much VRAM would be unnecessary for this GPU, but thats thwe diefference of a Flight Simulator rhat has a huge amount of very simple objects.
