Auto Throttle and Altitude

Featured Replies

For some reason I cannot get the auto throttle and Altitude to engage, the Auto throttle won't engage no matter what I do, and the Altitude does great on the climb, but then on cruise my altitude is all over the place.  Any suggestions>

Have you followed the manuals Steve, in terms of arming the Autoflight system? .... That has to be done to get the auto throttle functioning in this plane   - and it's done very differently in this plane, compared to others.

exactly how are you starting your takeoff ?

When are you switching the autothrottle on, and how?

what mode are you climbing in .... Profile or a MCP mode  ?

Some screenshots would really help.

Do you not arm the autothrottle on the ground by pressing autoflight ? Are you taking off with manual throttle setting?

I have tried both.  When I press autoflight to arm it, it goes right to AP1 then when I click it again to activate it, it goes to AP2

That is correct behaviour when in the air, it is changing between the 2 autopilots.

If you want to activate/reactivate the autothrottle in the air i think you need to press FMS SPD. Pressing PROF should also activate the autothrottle in the air. but you may have problems if your FLT PLN does not specify a speed for the leg you are flying....a non SID departure for example. If you want to take off without arming autothrottle I would advise using the flight level change mode initially.

You can save yourself these headaches by following nnormal procedure which is to arm the autothrottle on the ground before takoff (press autoflight), and advance throttles until the TOGA is activated

You should also be in  FD PROF/FMS SPD mode or FD MCP climb and pitch mode before you press autoflight.

You can arm PROF on the ground
