August 27, 201312 yr Withought having done anything - no new addons or anything, I now have a major issue... The menu bar will not appear for more than a fraction of a second, whatever I do. This is in both windowed and full screan modes. I've tried removing the fsx.cfg to let FSX rebuild a new one, but this made no difference either. Not seen this before!???? Can't do a system restore (its off) and dont want to roll back with a backup yet. August 27, 201312 yr Sounds like your dll.xml which handles the menu bar is corrupted. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 27, 201312 yr Author Thanks Jim I didn't know that. Will try my backup version .... August 27, 201312 yr Author Sadly, it's nothing so simple. Tried two different backup versions of the dll.xml. I recall now though, that it WAS after a CDT from FSX, so I guess it will be a corrupt file somewhere. It was a 'stackhash' error that crashed FSX. Any more ideas what it might be the problem? I've only just finished a complete Win7 and FSX reinstall too. Just what I need with the T7 just round the bl00dy corner;-) Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
August 27, 201312 yr According to the Internet a known fix is to rebuild your fsx.cfg but you have done that. There might be an issue with your system running low on memory but I cannot find anything on the Internet related to missing menu bars. So, when you hit the Alt key the menu shows up but then disappears? It could be a stuck Alt key. The StackHash crash is related to memory but I have not heard about it affecting the fsx menu. I did see on the Internet where one individual solved his problem by lowering the amount of Autogen (a known fps killer). That would have been resolved when you rebuilt your fsx.cfg and ran fsx with default settings though. I found one link that might help involving simconnect (don't know if you are using that but thought I'd pass it on anyway) http://forum.simflight.com/topic/44426-add-on-menu-bar-disappearing-in-fsx/. If you are still having issues, I suggest doing a Google search for fsx menu bar and you'll see a lot of similar problems. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 27, 201312 yr Author Many thanks for that Jim. Nort sorted yet, but I'll check your link tmrw. Nearly midnight for me, so am offskie to my pit. Cheers mate;-) Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
August 28, 201312 yr Author For future reference and anyone else with this issue, I've solved it. As Jim suggested, it was definately a SimConnect issue. All I did was to install ANOTHER version of SimConnect. Can't remember where I got it, but think its the version as recommended by Nick Needham. I have no idea why there seems to be so many variants, or why some work and while others dont. If a Mod gets the chance, maybe rename the title to something like 'Missing FSX Menu' Thanks for help Jim - much appreciated. August 28, 201312 yr If a Mod gets the chance, maybe rename the title to something like 'Missing FSX Menu' Good idea! Done! Glad you were able to find the problem. Here's a link for further information about the different SimConnect versions - http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:SimConnect. I'm sure if the Aces Team were still updating FSX, SimConnect would have been updated a lot more times to keep up with the times (and systems).
