Poll: about FS becoming interactive

Featured Replies

Just wandering what other simmers think of the idea of if FS would become interactive in the sense that all windows are no longer brought up by going to the drop down menu but instead by going somewhere within the sim to bring it up. Example would be to have FBO at fields that have them in real life. Being able to leave the aircraft and walk to the FBO and go inside. Once inside you can walk to all kinds of areas that would allow you to do different things. Walk to the the phone and the Flight planner window comes up where you can create and file a flight plan. Walk over to the clock and change the sim rate. Walk over to the Chart brings up map view etc. It could also allow for the user to walk up to any plane thats parked and load it to be the aircraft to fly. Game saves would require getting out of the aircraft and walking to a certain location on the field like at the front desk of the FBO or inside a terminal and you must open the a/c door in order to get out. I mean we have doors that open on the a/c but nothing to put in them or take out of them. Have this as an option to what we have now. So what do you think...do you like the idea or not?

like it, I think that MS needs a Dispatch facility, where you file a flight plan do a weather briefing and get info on PAX and Cargo, I know I do it all the time using the load config on my favorite AC and check the AS2004 weather, but, come on, not too much airline pilots have the power to decide how many PAX they will have on their AC.A interface to receive instructions on your next flight would be nice.I would do this as a random flight generator, you press a button, then the sim takes you to a random generated flight with a purpose: Flight cargo for a overnight delivery route, take a football team to its next destination, fly a patrol route with the coast guard etc...(hint hint... Some interaction with AI would be nice here, like fly in formation with the patrol - do search and rescue ETC...) and no, I dont want to convert my sacred civil sim in a shotting star wars game. The most difficult part of FS for me is: Where do I flight today, do it with a purpose. Is there any ADD on that supports this as of today???

:-)You might wanna look out for this:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96537.jpgAnd check out some more in this thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...68602&mode=fullAs stated it's a work in progress with no ETA so far but I think this will satisfy some of you by-the-book guys! ;-)Cheers,

Gabriel,Yeah I too am starting to look for purpose and/or interaction. Every airport has a runway and after landing the real only difference from one to another is how far you have to taxi and where you park. Other than that most airports dont differ from another.I would like FS to give more of an experience at each airport. I know the main purpose of FS is flying but I dont think it would "game it up" to offer the ability to exit the a/c and interact with the surroundings.

yes vote for me, i think that would really make the whole experience really interactive and imersiveciao!Brian S

Ciao!

Actually, I am _against_ putting anything or everything into the MSFS that a few want. What we want, is what hundreds or thousands want, and that will keep the FS at a reasonable price. Many Dreams that I see, the majority would not have computers fast enought to run. It is only since MS brought out SP2 for XP, that Ive been able to get my framerates up to 20fps. Not everyone can afford a new computer every two years, and personally, I dont want to throw away a perfectly good computer. Many featues I see, the majority would not use. They could even take out manual controls, make everything work on Autopilot, and Autoland, to satisfy a large percentage of current users. :-roller IF they put the majority of things into the FS, we'd have to have a 50ghz and 20Gig of ram. The FS would cost $795. Many things are already available as _free_ addons, and those who want the Payware addons, can purchase them. IF I had $3000 to spend on a top of the line computer for the FS, would never spend it. I'd go to KFUL, get my License, and FLY in a real aircraft. THAT'S as Real as it Gets! :-bigangel

Yes, I understand your point, is valid, and I have seen how you have expressed it in other threads.Well, maybe a full interaction with the surrounding environment will be too hard to implement and still stay within the scope of Flight sim.But how about providing some tools for add on developers to exploit, here's a couple of Ideas:1. Provide an engine for AI Airport vehicles, Service, gates. They will service your AC upon landing. I do not see it **that** dificult, it will improve the interaction of the Sim pilot with the environment.2. I know this sound ridiculous don't laugh at me: Provide an engine for Land and Water operations, In a way that some add on developer can build a nice car to drive around, YES I know this is not Car sim, but the scenery really looks different when you taxi out of the airport; I've done this in the 172 Cessna -- I told you not to laugh at me!!!3. Same with Water operations... How many of those rotor heads would like to land on a Big boat heliport while this is navegating!4. An (Third party )tool that provides a task to perform: as I said in my previous post: Fly with a purpose, a couple of days ago, I saw a thread where some newbie was asking, ok, what do I have to do after I land? we answered, well, you park and shut down the AC and... Well you fire up your engine and go up again!... I still Think I need a purpose to do this. (Completing a around the world tour as of now)5. Manteinance, Gas availability and cost in "Flight Sim Currency"... Do I load up all the fuel that I need for the round trip? will cost more to fill up at my destination? This is a common question pilots ask...6. For those that like to do Airline Travel: Am I making profit? Should I back up the throtle at cruise and save some fuel? am I landing too hard?I know what maybe, the mayority thinks that this is wayyy out of the scope of a flight sim, that flight sim should be just about going up and flying, but does that factors affect real flying? I am not a RW pilot but I think they do.4 years ago we were Flying in Fs2000, What did we said then?AI? We don't need no stinkin' AI, Flight sim is about fliying, not about Eye Candy, and Stupid AI.We are Still saying "Stupid AI", but with the time we have not said "take it out" or "We dont need it" we are saying: "Improve it", "We like it".As I said, I respect others opinions, they have their point also, none is right neither wrong, Time will tell, this is not in our hands really... But I am certain of something we will see a lot of things we don't even imagine in the years to come...

Most of the things I don't like actually. Why? Because they make a game out of what actually should be a simulation. This is not SimCity or "Build your airline". This should be about flight dynamics, weather, scenery, aircraft systems, ATC. There is still a lot of room for improvement. If I want to see little people walking on computer screen I'll buy the sims.Just my 2 cents.Alex
