November 18, 200421 yr Hello, guys. I need guidelines on how to add a VFR (Landing View)to an aircraft. I want it to work together in combination with the main panel in the same instance of an a/c, and be conjured up/hidden back to the main panel view by a trigger (either on the main panel and vfr panel). Is it possible to have a different height of view point and zoom when different panels are called up?Any recommendation on a VFR panel for B737 series? There are excellent B737 panels in the library, but either Landing View panels are missing in them, or I just don't like what I've found so far. Thanks to all.
November 18, 200421 yr A good example of a large jet VFR panel is b747pa2.zip for fs2002.It provide a simicon to switch from the normal 2D panel to the VFR 2D panel. The default and most of the third party addon aircraft don't exercise many of the available view parameters available for correctly setting the actual pilot's view of the outside world in the 2D cockpit. If you are interested in adjusting these parameters, download the FS2004_Panels_SDK - http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/ , downloads, FS2004SDK. Read the Panels SDK.doc about views.W. November 18, 200421 yr Thanks Sieffert. Yes I've found the instructions in the SDK just fine. Still looking for a Landing View panel.
November 18, 200421 yr This trick depends on the panel, but one trick I use is called the "panel slide"--I slide the panel low enough by dragging with the mouse so that the essential instr. are there, but I get a good view for landing. PMDG's 1900D has a great panel for this. I prefer this vs. changing the view angle more toward the runway, as I find I can misjudge how high to flare the aircraft. In the cockpit, you can assign a key (or one may be assigned by default) that will let you shift the view angle if you prefer to adjust your view that way. The bonus is you can apply that towards all panels. One other option which can be applied towards all panels is changing the size of the underlying "view" window so that it doesn't overlap with the top of the panel. But that can cause some distortions as well.Last, you can use the "view" entries in the panel.cfg to manipulate the view, zoom, view angle, and even view direction. I suspect someone here will post that in more depth...-John
November 18, 200421 yr Good advice, JohnCi. Just could you pls elaborate:"In the cockpit, you can assign a key (or one may be assigned by default) that will let you shift the view angle if you prefer to adjust your view that way. The bonus is you can apply that towards all panels"Has anyone seen a good VFR panel for a 737 (non-NG) series?
November 18, 200421 yr I'm referring to one of the keys for panning the view downwards. The panel stays in place, but essentially your head is "raised" by the view angle being moved downwards. Some panels have a slight downwart cant in their view setup, but I've always had a problem managing landings with those since it distorts the alignment of the nose with the horizon--and if you've been taught to use that as a reference point for maintaining your airspeed and/or in the flare, it makes things a real challenge.-John
