in the normal 777 procedure is the APU now used to power up the aircraft of external power still in use ?

 

or does it depends on the airline or airport? cause lately I read that most of the airports are not using anymore the external power (I might be wrong)

Depends on turnaround time and airport conditions. If a cheap airline has a turnaround of 30 minutes it'll power it from apu. If it is very cold or really hot they also will use apu even with a 60minutes turnarount time. All in extend of 60 minutes will most likely be external. Also if crew will leave aircraft for dinner external power will be used (or they swith off cockpit and use service bus for cabin).
