VNAV too low?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I've done a few flights with the 777 now and it is great!! I do notice one odd thing I haven't had problems with on other PMDG aircraft. I let VNAV take me somewhat close to final. Every flight so far, VNAV has taken me way too low below a decent approach path. I know I need to start manually entering the altitude values in the STARs but usually the STAR altitudes are correct in other aircraft, but haven't been with the 777 so it's been catching me off guard. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a problem with the AIRAC?

Oh and while I'm at it, another problem I have is FSX will freeze for a second when the fuel is injected into the engine and the sound file changes. Only does it for the first engine I start.

I need to see a screenshot of your PFD and the FMC LEGS page to be able to say what's causing the VNAV thing (it's probably not a bug).

I'll grab one the next flight I do! I'm doubtful it's a bug too, figure either the AIRAC data is off or I did something wrong. The aircraft will fly to the altitudes but seems to want to get low early. For example, a waypoint will have an altitude restriction to 2,000' and the 777 will get to the 2,000' well before the waypoint.

I also noticed that. If the T7 is in VNAV descend, sometimes it switch to holdmode. It will reduce thrust to idle and descend direct to the restriction, similar to the LVL change mode.

If you go to settings you can enable overdrive holdmode and manually adjust the thrust to descend with the glidepath.

When it's in the idle path mode, having accurate wind predictions entered in is crucial to having it calculate a proper path. Otherwise you're going to end up above or below it because of the effect of the wind.

777 is different to the 737. The 737 has 'geometric' descent profile, I believe it's called, where between 2 alt restrictions it will set a vertical speed to reach the second alt as it crosses the intersection.

The 777 will not do this; after the first restriction it will descend at idle, like in FLCH. So vnav in the 777 is like FLCH that respects speed/alt restrictions.
