Starting Vladimir Zhyhulskiy's Antonov AN-2

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

This AN-2 is a very well made aircraft which includes a beautiful Russian panel and a lot of other goodies. However, getting the engine to start seems impossible. You hear the starter motor doing it's work but then ....... silence.

At the end of the supplied manual it says that more than 30% of throttle is necessary but this has no effect at all nor do prop pitch, fuel mixture settings or any combinations thereof.

Even when selecting the default Cessna, getting that running first and then selecting back to the AN-2, causes the AN-2's engine to die immediately.

In all my many years of experience with FS9, this very specific problem has me stumped.

Ideas anyone ?

Hi,

I don't own the Zhyhulski model, but the Xomer model, so I'm not familiar with it's specific details, but I remember starting difficulties, too. Here are some points to check:

- fuel supply switched onto a valid tank (at Xomers model somewhere in the left lower corner)?

- there is a fuel cut-off lever, as I remember at the throttle quadrant, perhaps it is set to close?

- are all the necessary fuse switches and the additional starter switch on? (As my Russian is not good enough to understand all the abbreviations at the switches, I rather switch all of them on...) O.K. ,question for starter switch was nonsense if you hear the starter sound, sorry.

With Xomer's model, one can start quite realistic as I saw it in the real thing (Strg+E definitely impossible), and mostly it works for me... How is the procedure in Vladimirs model?

If I'm back from work in the evening, I could go through the procedures.

Knowing that it isn't the same model, I can start my An-2 this way

- Generator and Accu switches on

- Tank selector to "otkryty" (You can read kyrillic?)

- starter switch (zapusk) to on

- magnetoes to both

- fuel cut-off lever to open

- mixture lever to full rich

- throttle lever to 1/3

- hold ignition switch to left until voltmeter (?) shows approx. 5

- now hold ignition switch to right until engine runs

Maybe it is slightly different in Vladimirs model. At least when I recently took a flight in a real world An-2, the pilots did quite exactly as I do in Xomers model.

Myagkie posadki drug!

Thanks Harald for your reactions.

After a lot of messing around I had a brainwave. I Googled the problem and found that I was not the only one with this engine start issue and it turned out to be a problem in quite some other simmer's aircraft.cfg files which had somehow become corrupted.

I corrected the errors and...........problem solved.

Thanks again.

Hans
