September 20, 201312 yr ... or, "What's the replacement 'Default' mode exactly?" Now that I've installed FTXG, I notice that each of the tickmark options for Global mode [trees | hybrib | vector lights] has its own changes to the main texture / autogen definition files. In days past, if I wanted to install a non-ORBX airport or regional scenery package, I knew to set FTX Central to "Default" and to verify that the proper versions of the definition files were restored. Easy enough. Today though feels different. I get it that I should be in FTX Global mode, but which of its options should I enable before I install something else? Does it really matter if my new install clobbers one version of \Autogen\default.xml over another?
September 21, 201312 yr Without going on the Orbx forum and looking for the answer, I've always had the three boxes unchecked and installed the non-orbx scenery. Some of my scenery made with ADE, and the scenery for my online flying club has to be at the top of the scenery library in order to see it in FSX. Anyways, once I install it, I then go back to FTX Central and check the boxes. Hope it works for you. Rod Rod Beck
September 21, 201312 yr Author Rod, Thanks for the benefit of your experience! I've searched the ORBX forums and read most of the nuts-and-bolts explanations of what FTXG (and all the ORBX regions) changes, and I've decided that for my non-ORBX-region sceneries I'll go that route. Luckily my first few installs will be in areas that ORBX hasn't yet announced scenery packs for. However when it comes time to pick up a new UK2000 airport, I'm considering installing that with Central set to EU... since that would be the ORBX region that I'd have active when flying UK2000. Funny... when all that ORBX did was to cover Australia and Tasmania, things were so simple then. Now I'm wondering why they list their open landclass areas higher than their regions... and whether I should move my ORBX Insertion Point much lower in my scenery areas.
