September 20, 201312 yr When I start the engines torque goes way into 1400plus..After a while it settles down to 200s and 300s. on idle. I am presuming this is normal. If not, what can I do to avoid this ? Thanks
September 22, 201312 yr That's most likely the FSX version of a hot start. :-( No, not reflecting the real thing but sort of a character trait of the underlying default engine model for turbines. To avoid it, stick to the checklist which means that you keep the fuel off (condition lever at zero) up to some 12% ng. Then slowly advance it to allow for fuel flow. Since the ng percentage will go up when you do this, your next item will be the starter switch. You have to disable it after reaching a certain ng value. So keep in mind that red condition lever and focus on the ng gauge. My guess would be that you need an external engine model to allow for realistic startup phases with free turbines like on the C90. That's with having in mind most if not all of my payware planes and their startup behaviour. If you like, google hot start and see how the real thing would perform. It's a way to cause significant damage and/or wear on turbine engines and things like the battery voltage would play a role together with the handling of the condition lever mentioned. Another item would be the so called hung start. In the sim, things are simplified and sometimes very wrong. Doesn't spoil the actual flying though. B-) / sent from a mobile thingy /
September 22, 201312 yr Author Figured out that if I start with prop controls at feather torque stays below 600-500....guess I will just do it this way...Thanks for the feedback.
