September 22, 201312 yr Hello, I was going to update my CPU to a Intel i7 3770k, these are my current system specs: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601OS Manufacturer Microsoft CorporationSystem Manufacturer Gateway System Model FX6860System Type x64-based PC Processor Intel® Core™ i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. Do I have to change anything? Is this all good for the 3770k and the Xigmatek Dark Knight II cpu cooler? I don't want to have to get a new BIOS, so I hope these specs are good!
September 23, 201312 yr I have a 3770k don't forget to overclock to 4.5ghz, and if you have the funds get that 780GTX, its a beast of a video card, good luck....
September 23, 201312 yr Author Good, so all I need is the new CPU and cooler? Everything is compatible right?
September 23, 201312 yr Good, so all I need is the new CPU and cooler? Everything is compatible right? I don't think the mobo will support OC. Can you post a pic of CPU-Z, "Mainboard" tab?
September 24, 201312 yr How can I find this information CPU-Z Check the Mainboard tab. If the chipset is H67 you're out of luck
September 24, 201312 yr Author Darn it, it says H67, what mother board will I have to get? Oh, wait a second, it says the southbridge is H67, not the chipset, the chipset is Sandy Bridge.
September 25, 201312 yr Darn it, it says H67, what mother board will I have to get? Oh, wait a second, it says the southbridge is H67, not the chipset, the chipset is Sandy Bridge. I'm afraid it's a non-overclockable H67 mobo John. OEM systems are hardly ever overclockable. You need a new mobo, and CPU, and cooler, and also a dedicated GPU, that will most likely mean you'll need a new PSU too... You'd be better off selling that box and building one yourself from scratch
September 25, 201312 yr Author Unfortunatly that won't fit my budget. I am still only in middle school and my parents don't like me spending a lot of money on computer hardware What processors would I be able to install without having to change the MOBO, GPU, or PSU. I will replace cooler and obviously the CPU. Note: I would like to overclock to at least 4,0 Ghz. And I can change my MOBO but only if I HAVE to and I need the cheapest one.
September 25, 201312 yr What processors would I be able to install without having to change the MOBO, GPU, or PSU None I'm afraid The only possible "upgrade" in your socket would be an I5 3570 for just a 5% perf boost maybe. You won't be able to overclock with that motherboard either. Anyway, even at stocks speeds the I7 2600 is no slouch. Maybe we need to put the focus somewhere else... What's the graphics card and what kind of performance are you getting? What settings are you running?
