November 28, 200421 yr When fs2k4 starts it says it's generating the scenery files, but then at 8% it exits. There's very cryptic messages in the app log:The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 7.MS had me delete fs9.cfg, check directx, upgrade to 9.1 (which I did back in October and was working fine). Their last suggestion was to reinstall it. Any other suggestions? If I do reinstall, how can I preserve various settings? 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
November 28, 200421 yr If you mean the various settings in your FS9.CFG file, copy it to a safe place on your computer. If you have a host of addons, scenery updates, etc., you can make a copy of the entire Flight Simulator 9 folder, rename the copy to FS2004OLD. Conduct the uninstall through the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs menu. Once uninstalled, use Windows Explorer and delete any residual Flight Simulator 9 folders (Do NOT delete FS2004OLD).Reinstall and start FS2004, let it stabilize, and check to see if it is operating correctly. If you installed the new installation on the same diskdrive location as FS2004OLD, rename the new Flight Simulator 9 folder to FS2004NEW, rename FS2004OLD to Flight Simulator 9. Restart the flight simulator to see if the old problem still exists. If so, rename the folders in the reverse order, restart the new installation of FS2004 to ensure it still operates correctly. If so, you have several options, copy addons, updates to the new installation one at a time, test, and add more until the problem arises. Two delete the FS2004OLD installation and start modifying the new installation. Since the new installation is clean, you can also make a copy of the Flight Simulator 9 folder and name the copy FS2004BASE. If this go awry, you always have the base to return.W.
