October 6, 201312 yr I have to admit that my priorities suck- I get 30 minutes a night to sim, what with long work hours, mentoring some young student pilots, and my love of hiking in the mountains. But I'm addicted to simming as much as anyone, ut don't have the time to play with hardware much. I do build my own PC's, maybe once every several years when miraculously time is available. I'm currently running an ASUS P8P67, with an i7-2600 CPU. I even installed water cooling, but never really did much with over-clocking. Now I'm running DX10 and things look more jerky, so I got to think about maybe doing that overclock. So, I''ve been researching the topic this weekend on the web. Running CPU-Z, for my CPU I see "i-7-2600", "Family 6", "Extended Family 6", "Model A", "Extended Model 2a", "Stepping 7". So, I guess I don't have thea "K" model, would that be correct? From what I've read the "non-K" models don't OC well.. is this cirrect? So, i-2600K CPU's are still available at some vendors, although I don't know for how long.... New Egg has none, "superseded". What other later CPU's can I put into this board? I'd rather not replace the board if possible.... and assuming I do have a "non-K" CPU, how limited is it for over-clocking? Thanks, Bruce. October 7, 201312 yr Newegg has the i7-2700K in stock right now. That'd be a good one for your mobo. A non-K CPU dosen't have the unlocked multiplier you need to O/C.
