October 9, 201312 yr I got a problem. After a week of selecting al the different parts I need for my custom fsx pc. I find out that the haf x being 15cm to heigh for being placed under my cockpit. Does anybody know a case with a maximum height of 45 cm and that has outstanding air flows and wil fit the corsair h110. I want to overclock my i7 4470 so I need good cooling. Your problem, is that you need that extra space at the top of the case to fit the rad and fans, especially if you ever intend to try push pull. However, I think I may be able to come to your rescue. The Corsair Air 540 has awesome airflow, great features. http://www.corsair.com/us/pc-cases/carbide-series-pc-case/carbide-series-air-540-high-airflow-atx-cube-case.html Dimensions are... 415 x 332 x 458 I believe the 458 is the height. So is the 8mm and issue for you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCwBTNFmTXs
October 12, 201312 yr The other solution of course, is to go for a custom loop, so a 240 rad would suffice and fit in a case like the Haf XB Cube. Or fit a rad externally.
October 12, 201312 yr Moderator Consider the Corsair Obsidian 350D Micro-ATX case. Dimensions 17.7" x 8.3" x 17.3". You may need to switch to a Corsair H100 cooler but that will be fine. I was going for a 550D but it was a bit too wide and my computer dealer suggested the 350D which is a really nice alternative and can easily accommodate the GTX 780. See My PC for my full spec. October 12, 201312 yr Well if he decides to drop down to the H100i there are alternatives. The HAF XB Cube case for example. Be best not to though, the H110 is superior. If he goes for the case you suggest, he would have to switch the motherboard to a micro ATX board, thus change his preferred spec. And a smaller case is a hotter case. He asked for "outstanding airflow". It looks like the H110 fits in the HAF Cube according to this Japanese video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTiKyhMIKwM
October 12, 201312 yr Another possibility. http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-v750/ Lian Li PC-V750 Two 140 fans support on top, so possibly H110 compatible. Height 440.
October 12, 201312 yr Moderator Well if he decides to drop down to the H100i there are alternatives. The HAF XB Cube case for example.Be best not to though, the H110 is superior. There's not a huge difference between them. If he goes for the case you suggest, he would have to switch the motherboard to a micro ATX board, thus change his preferred spec. I changed to a micro-ATX board without a second thought. It pays to be flexible when you're considering components. And a smaller case is a hotter case. He asked for "outstanding airflow". So the fans run a little faster. I can hardly hear mine running with FSX. I'm sure he'd be fine with a smaller case but he's paying so the choice is his. Ray (Cheshire, England). October 13, 201312 yr There's not a huge difference between them. Temps here, overclocked and under load... http://www.guru3d.co..._review,13.html H100i 76 degrees Kraken X60 70 degrees [Noisy higher RPM fans] Corsair H110 72 degrees [Very quiet] NH-D14 72 degrees [Very quiet] Noise levels here... http://www.guru3d.co..._review,11.html 4 degrees and it's far noisier at full whack.. When overclocking significantly it's significant. And no reason to compromise his favoured cooler if a suitable case, like the HAF XB is available. I changed to a micro-ATX board without a second thought. It pays to be flexible when you're considering components. But to help the OP effectively, the priority is to at least attempt to provide suggestions that accommodate his preferred component choices. Only then, after such a thing is deemed impossible to we start modifying spec. So the fans run a little faster. I can hardly hear mine running with FSX. I'm sure he'd be fine with a smaller case but he's paying so the choice is his. Precisely, the choice is his. And he told us what he wants. So that's what we base our help on. Additionally, in terms of overclocking, he will be glad of any thermal advantage provided by a larger enclosure volume. And looking to the future, he will be glad of the larger enclosure volume in terms of any future upgrades that require space. Water cooling for example. Makes more economic sense to buy a suitable enclosure now, rather than have to spend money again in the future.
October 13, 201312 yr Moderator Agreed that the H110 is a better performer than the H100. Normally the differences aren't that great. One point I would make though. Does he really need a 1000w power supply? 750w would be more than adequate. Ray (Cheshire, England). October 13, 201312 yr Agreed that the H110 is a better performer than the H100. Normally the differences aren't that great. As I said 4 degrees. Doesn't sound huge, but it helps when overclocking. And it's not really logical to buy a less efficient cooler if not necessary. Before advising changing motherboard and cooler spec, I would rather find him a suitable enclosure that accommodates his choices. One point I would make though. Does he really need a 1000w power supply? 750w would be more than adequate. True, but he's probably thinking of a degree of future proofing, his choice. He didn't say he needed help with component choices, so I'm more interested in the enclosure height restriction as it's a significant issue. Would be nice to be able to accommodate his chosen components. The Lian Li above will do it, but a very expensive enclosure. Any cooler is feasible of course with some modding. It also may be possible to externally mount the H110 rad. If the water cooling holes at the rear of the chosen case, have a cut out slot between the holes and the rear fan, [as many do] it's possible to feed the block through the rear fan hole, and slot the tubes in the grommeted water cooling holes. Then it's just rad brackets for external mounting.
