Tips for an older, non-overclocked rig.

I abandoned FSX a couple years ago for FS9 so I could get into more airliner flying and handle denser areas more easily. I am fairly happy with FS9 but I've been getting some annoying errors lately and am tired of missing out on all the cool new stuff coming out for FSX/P3D. My hard drive is getting really cluttered and I think I am going to do a fresh re-install of Windows tomorrow, and try FSX again.

When I was an FSXer I flew almost exclusively GA/bush in ORBX regions, and I know I will get good FPS out there. However I would really like to eventually try the NGX, 777, Milviz 732, and all the other cool stuff coming out that I've been missing out on, but am unsure how well it will perform, especially in the denser areas. I'm guessing I'd have to turn autogen and water way down, but I think the crisper ground textures still could give a nicer experience than FS9 is jacked all the way up.

So here's my main question, I'm sure there are people out there running FSX on rigs similar to mine or perhaps worse. How has your experience been and what kind and how great of sacrifices do you have to make? Obviously like everyone else I'll have to do my own tinkering around, but any advice is appreciated. I have read through some of Word Not Allowed's guide.

I would try to overclock but it is a pre-built Dell PC so that is not really possible. It's not a bad rig but it's obviously pretty dated compared to what I see a lot of people on here using - Sandys, Ivys, Haswells 4+ Ghz, etc.

Ivy at stock clock get by just fine on i5 3570k, but I think long as most scenery is stock and scenery add on not high polys or hi res textures get by fine. I fly with steam gauges and some glass gauges do not max out clouds resolution, autogen off, shadows off, get smooth frames water 2x low, Trial and Error can always buy new computer when ya get your tax refund get haswell or ivy. Just work the setting till smooth do not count fps as let's your eyes and yoke be the guide not the fps counter.
